Charlotte Mason Homeschooling Week-Day 4

Welcome to Day 4 of my series on Charlotte Mason Homeschooling. Now today I was supposed to give a list of our tried and true books. I then realized that that list could go on forever as I looked at our library. So instead I'm going to give you a few ideas on looking for great books. First look for books by one author. This will usually mean that the author was passionate about the subject and in return the material will be more satisfying to the mind then just a plain text with small bits of information. Ambleside has a great booklist that you can take your time and go through. You can find that here. Make sure the reading level is appropriate for the age level of your kids.
Don't forget your library. It's a great source of free literature. Did you know that at most libraries you can hold a book right from the comfort of your home and when it's delivered to your designated library they call you and all you do is go pick it up. I love that. I can do all my looking right here and then just have it all waiting for me at the desk when they call. Sweet huh?
I hope you have enjoyed this little segment of Homeschooling the Charlotte Mason way. Blessings to you!!

  1. Just reminding everyone about the inter-library loan system. Some people might live in a small town where the library system doesn't have much. They need to ask their librarian about inter-library loan. Most libraries are more than happy to get anything you request...from wherever they have to get it. I've gotten items from Georgia, Arkansas, Minnesota, California, and a host of other states as well.

    Blessings on your day!

  2. All of my homeschooling friends are experts at using the library system! Such great resources there. I am blessed to have 2 locations within 10 minutes' drive.

  3. I was getting your web address to link for Friday Funnies and was reading your blog-ok so now I've realized i just need to follow it since i get back here weekly:) We've homeschooled classically for the past 7 years and I am researching currently more CM too enhance our studies. How fun to know you've been using it! Looking forward to reading more! Amanda:)

  4. I love being able to hold books at the library. :D I have transfers from others around our town, too. We've gotten more books at our downtown library than on base.
