Procrastination

Procrastination - 1. To defer action, delay. 2. To put off until another day.

Who here is guilty of that? I know I am. I woke up this morning thinking about this word and how guilty I am of doing it. I look around and see all the things start to pile up and wonder, "How in the world did it get like this?". Okay I even answered myself I said, "It's because you wanted to do that "other thing" remember?" Ah, the other thing. Doesn't it seem like there is always something else we would rather do then what "needs" to be done? The every day is without it's glamour and can sometimes be mundane but even so, it's not going to get any better when those things start to pile up. So I got to thinking, what if I chose to do those things I should be doing right when they need being done instead of what I want to be doing which in turn will probably free more time up in the long run to do what I wanted to do in the first place. Whew, did you get that? You are good! A light came on and a new leaf was turned this morning. I'm not going to wait to vacuum until it looks like the beach has made itself into the house. The laundry isn't going to pile up so bad that Mt. Everst comes to mind. I'm going to grab a pen and paper and write down all the things that I procrastinate about and knock my list out this week and during this week I'm going to put my plan into action by not creating any more things to put on my "list". I want this to be a one time list for just the things "right now" that need my attention. It could be filing papers, checking homeschool work, an unfinished sewing project, returning dreaded phone calls, putting quiet time with the Lord "first", etc. Now I'm not going to beat myself up either if "life" takes an unexpected turn and I'm not able to get it all done. This is a process and I've learned to roll with the punches of life. I hope this can inspire some of you to take that initiative to do the same. It's hard. Being a Mommy and keeper of the home is not an easy job, but it's one worth doing right!
Besides I now have a new song to do my house work to to make it a bit more enjoyable. For more on that go here.
Blessings my friends.

  1. This is something I really struggle with. And it seems so silly because if I wouldn't put things off, I would have plenty of time for everything else that I want to do!

I will make a list, too and focus this week.
