Trash to Treasure: Christmas Edition!

I had recently talked about how we scooped up a bunch of old fence that people had thrown out after the hurricane and showed you some things we had done with it. This time around we used some of those pieces to make some Christmas stuff. Yay!

Check it out.

My hubby made these wooden trees. They are so fun and we’ve already got compliments on them. Oh and we got all the decorations and lights that are on them at garage sales, so they cost next to nothing. Woot! Woot!

IMG_8864IMG_8865IMG_8866IMG_8867

They look really pretty all lit up, but I’m saving our night time photos for another post. Smile

Next we have our snowman family. Hubby cut out the snowmen and then I painted on the faces and wrapped the “scarves” around them. I really like these. So cute. Haven’t decided where I’m going to put them yet but I’ll show you on my Homesteaders Heart Facebook page when I figure it out.

Then we have the Joy sign. It adds a nice festive touch to the front porch area. This was such a fun project to do and it didn’t take long either. Hubby cut and painted the background and I painted the details. We make a good team!

So have I inspired you to make some treasure out of trash? If so message me and show me on my HHFacebook page. Smile

The Galvanized Stand

I’m about to open your eyes to a whole new world. A world where 3 tier stands reign supreme. A world where organizing, pretty and decor’ unite. Okay enough of the dramatic but seriously, I’m kinda in love with my stand. But first a backstory.

About 4 months ago I saw an ad for Hobby Lobby where they had a 3 tier galvanized stand advertised for $20.00. I quickly (and by quickly I mean I didn’t get to the store till a week later) went to the store to buy it and they were already sold out. Here’s a little fun fact, if you show them the ad, they will give you a rain check and call you when it comes in and you still get it at the sale price. Yes! The bummer is, it took like a month and a half for them to get it back in. But good things are worth waiting for right?!

So I finally got my stand. I had so many entertaining ideas to use it for but I wasn’t going to be entertaining any time soon. So what do I do with it until I “need” it. Well when it’s not strutting it’s stuff in the entertaining circles I use it on my coffee bar. I love it there and it can easily be emptied when I want to use it for a party or something.

Here’s a looksy:

Now if you’re still not convinced you “need” one, go check out my Galvanized Tray Pinterest board with tons of ideas of what you can do with this baby. It’s so much fun. And if you already have one and use it regularly, come visit me on my Homesteader’s Heart FB page and show me or send me a link in the comments section.

Have a lovely day my friends.

Christmas Coffee Bar!

It’s no secret I love decorating for Christmas. If you’ve ever stepped foot into my house at Christmas you know this. If you’ve visited my blog around Christmas in the past, you know this. If you didn’t know this, you now know this.

I didn’t have this coffee bar last year. It was birthed in February of this year, so I never got to put my Christmas spin on it until now, and I have to say that I love it. It makes me smile every time I see it.

Here’s how it usually is.

And here it is with my Christmasy touch.

IMG_8519

I loved changing up my chalkboard picture. I think it came out pretty cute, considering I had no idea what I was going to draw.

IMG_8513

Underneath the chalkboard I switched out my regular coffee mugs for my favorite Christmas mugs. I then put the rest of my Christmas mugs on the cup holder. Poof! Instant Christmasy cuteness.

IMG_8514

I “quickly” made a new Christmasy runner to go underneath everything.

IMG_8512

I put my little lighted Christmas tree on there and turn it on when I get up because it’s still dark. It just adds a little fun. In the back there is my snowman that holds creamer and sugar. I keep him empty until I need him for company or something.

Painting Pottery

Recently a girlfriend and I went to this paint your own pottery place. If you’ve never done this before, it’s tons of fun. They have sooooo many things to choose from. Almost to the point that it can get overwhelming. So it’s a good idea to go in there with maybe an idea of what you might want to paint.

I of course didn’t have a clue what I wanted to paint. My interests are all over the place. I was like “Oh cool a snowman. Oh a butter dish (which I’ll be painting next time), Oh a mug, a dish, a plaque, a cross, a jewelry holder…..” See what I mean? It’s tough. But I did finally decide on something that I had been wanting to replace for awhile but had forgotten about until I saw it and that is a tart warmer. One of my sons had broken mine a while back while playing ball in the house and I’d missed it. Though apparently not too much because it’s been about 3 years now. But whatever. Smile

And because I want everything to match my decor’, I decided to paint it in my favorite colors to match my kitchen area.

IMG_8470IMG_8467IMG_8469IMG_8471

I seriously love how it came out. It’s so happy and fun.

Some of you might remember the salt and pepper shakers I made a few years back. I still use them and love them.

So if you’re looking for a fun thing to do, I recommend giving this a try. The next thing I want to try is the Painting With A Twist that is so popular right now. It looks like tons of fun.

Have you every painted your own pottery? Do tell!
Have a lovely day my friends.

The Super Hero Baby Shower!

I’m not normal. Well maybe typical is a better word. Or maybe not normal does fit. Either way when I knew I was going to be planning my daughter’s baby shower I knew I didn’t have it in me to do things the way most people do things. Because I’m not most people. I’m me……. not being normal.

And then the more I thought about my daughter and son in law I knew it was going to have to do with super heroes. My daughter and son in law are both young and trendy and they totally got ME hooked on the super hero movies, so I couldn’t see doing anything else. And once I got started there was no stopping me.

So this is my version of a Super Hero Baby Shower!

First the food table. It was a 3 o’clock shower so I really only had to come up with some light snacks. Nothing too heavy.

This was my attempt at the Captain America Shield. I used cherries, cheese, raspberries, blueberries and then marshmallows for the star. I thought it turned out cute.

Super Veggies, for SUPER strength.

Thor hammers made out of cheese and pretzels, then shaped like the Thor hammer. Not the prettiest thing on the planet but it fit the theme. *smile*

Super hero baby shower

Delicious super hero cupcakes made by my bestest. We just printed out the toppers and stuck them in the cupcakes. Pretty easy to do.     Super hero baby shower

Muli colored tableware and super hero napkins.

Super Flowers!!

Here’s my favorite part. You know how in comics they have those times when they have the words “Pow!” “Ka-boom” etc.? Well we thought it would be fun to use words associated with pregnancy and baby. Totally made it fun.

Super hero baby shower

Then what’s a baby shower without games?

I love this one. You simply give everyone some playdough, set the timer for 5 minutes and have everyone make a baby. Then the mom-to-be gets to pick her favorite.

Here are some of the ladies in action.

IMG_7244 IMG_7245 IMG_7246 IMG_7247 IMG_7250

And the finished products.

Super hero baby shower We got some serious laughs with these babies.

Here’s my daughter laughing at them and picking out her favorite. She liked the dark blue one best. Which one was your favorite?

IMG_7256

The next game we played was the Price is Right game.

To do this you just buy 10 or so baby items and have your guests guess how much each item is and then they total up their prices and the person who comes closest without going over wins a prize. And mom-to-be gets to keep all the goodies.

IMG_7236 IMG_7237

Then we played the candy game. You can do a search on Pinterest and find different versions of this game, but it is pretty fun.

Super hero baby shower After games my daughter opened up her wonderful gifts that she was blessed by.

IMG_7270 Then I sent the guests home with a little party favor of nail polish in colors of green, or blue and some blue Hershey’s kisses.

All in all I think it went over quite well.

My Sad Fall Decor Attempt

I just don’t think I’m cut out for Autumn decorating. The colors just don’t speak to me in a way that I can understand. All I hear is taunting and whispering behind my back. They laugh at my lack of zeal for the season.

But because I’m not a quitter, I pressed on and came up with, well, what you are about to see here. Yes people, I’m putting myself out there to make you feel good. I’m a giver. Self sacrifice is my middle name. Seeing what you are about to see will give you the courage to press on and decorate your homes. Because frankly you can’t do much worse than what I am about to show you.

So without further ado, my Fall decor. I’ll the pictures do the talking. Tell me what YOU hear.

Here’s some awesome close ups to make it look like more than it is.

AND there you have it.

Now go forth and decorate!
