I recently had the privilege of receiving and reviewing this wonderful book.
About The Sparkle Box - A Gift with the Power to Change Christmas
Sam is so excited about Christmas! He's thinking about his Christmas list, looking forward to holiday parties, and puzzling over one very mysterious gift: a sparkly box sitting on the mantel. In the midst of the festivities, Sam and his family participate in various acts of kindness to others. On Christmas morning, when Sam finally opens the Sparkle Box, he finds only slips of paper that record the family's good deeds. Sam's mom explains that the things that they've been doing are, in fact, a gift for Jesus, for Jesus said that whatever we do for those in need, we do for Him.
I really love the concept of this book. I love that you can be both spontaneous and intentional in your quest to bless people. I think it will really help us focus as a family, on doing for others this time of year.
I read the book to our 8 year old as soon as I opened it and he immediately realized that the sparkle box that came with the book didn’t have a pretty purple ribbon on top, so he set to work on making one himself. I think he did a pretty good job.
This year I’m going to set the Sparkle Box up on our mantle with index cards that I have cut in half so it’s easy and convenient to write down the good deeds that were done. I will also have some ideas already written out for us to choose from throughout the weeks to come.
I think as a parent or grandparent it will be fun to record some good deeds that your children do without them knowing you’re watching. I think they will be surprised Christmas morning when they realize you’ve been watching their thoughtfulness play out.
