A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

Thankful Thursday

  • I'm thankful for living in a free country
  • I'm thankful for all the men and women who have given their lives so we can be free.
  • I'm thankful for the word of God to direct and correct me.
  • I'm thankful that my whole family is healthy.
I want to post the words to our National Anthem. Really read these words and hold them close to your heart. I almost always cry when I hear this song.

The Star Spangled Banner Lyrics
By Francis Scott Key 1814

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

God Bless America!!

  1. How sad to say I did not know there was more to that great song, our National Athem. The words are so heartfelt, and yet I had never, NEVER heard of them. I sit here ashamed of myself. My nephew is in Iraq right now, saving lives in the medical field, do you think they will have a big 4th of July party? I doubt they will have time to think of OUR Indpendence Day, while they are fighting for anothers Indpendence. But lets hope they do. Let's hope and pray there are no rockets with red glare, no bombs bursting in air but that their flag and ours will still be there. That star spangled banner will still wave over the land that wants to be free and the home of many that are brave. May our brave come home soon. Aunt Lisa loves you William Michael.

  5. Well, while my son's picture "almost" made you cry, your post DID make me cry. :)
I love that song, I don't think there is a time I have listened to it, sang it or just read it that I can hold back the tears. It is such a reminder of just what thousands have gone through to make this country ours.
    One Nation Under God.
