At The Well- Daughters

This week at At The Well our host is Penny Raine and her topic this week is encouraging daughters. These are her questions.
How do you encourage your daughters in their relationship with the Lord?

How do you encourage them in areas of domestic service in your home?

How do you encourage them in their future of loving their husbands and their own children, and also being content if marriage isn't in God's plan for them?
I think I can sum up each question with this....be an example. Show them how a wife, mother and keeper of the home should be. My daughter is 14 almost 15 and she once said to me,"Mom, I hope I love my husband as much as you love Daddy." Remember, your kids watch you a lot. Even if you don't think they do and that was a wonderful reminder of that. She can tell that my love for my husband, her daddy, isn't superficial or one that takes effort.

Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.
Proverbs 31:11

This example should spill over on how you keep your home. If your home is unorganized and messy and you would rather watch Oprah then clean it, well chances are this is what will happen in her life.

she watches over the ways of her household and eats not of the bread of idleness.
Proverbs 31:27

Show her what a joy it is to be a keeper of your home. Enjoy the process of decorating and making it inviting and keeping it neat and clean. Show hospitality to others. This is a great way to show servanthood. Let them plan a "get together" and ready the house and plan the food. This is a great way for them to "practice" before they leave the nest someday.

she opens her hands to the poor, and extends her hands to the needy,
Proverbs 31:20

My daughter is given things to do to help out around the house. I don't want her to be clueless of what to do when that day arrives and she is gone and keeping her own home. She helps me cook and clean each day. She is also becoming a wonderful seamstress.
She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes.
Proverbs 31:24
As far as time with the Lord, well you need to instill in them a love for reading the word each day. Let them know that only He can give them the strength needed to accomplish each task. Hold them accountable. Ask them if they had their quiet time this morning. If not send them back in because it is sooo important to start the day out right.
I end this as I started, be an example. I am around my kids a lot and they watch everything I do. What do I want them to see?
Hop on over to pennyraine.com to see more answers to these questions.
Blessings to you my friends.

  1. Kim,
Wonderful thoughts! And a great reminder to be an example. If we are living according to His word, our daughters will see that and it will pave the way for them to set the example to their daughters!

Thanks for joining us today At the Well!

  2. You are so right. I loved how you gave real life examples to support scripture. I am so glad to have found your site many months ago so that I could learn from your wisdom.

  3. Kim, What great advice! I couldn't agree more. I do so many of the things my mother used to do, good and bad, and I'm already seeing my daughters do the same. It's built-in accountability, but the kind you can't afford to mess up! Thanks for your insights.

  7. "Mom, I hope I love my husband as much as you love Daddy."

To me, that is the pinnacle of successful mothering. Well done, Mom!

I always wanted a daughter, but I reckon God knew better. I'd hate to pass along the example (or lack thereof, as the case may be) my mother passed to me. I'm still, to this day, working on overcoming that. A good mother is a priceless treasure. Give yourself a pat on the back. 8-]

  8. Kim, what a WONDERFUL post...You know they are watching and one of the greatest gifts we can give them is a happy home..."My daughter is 14 almost 15 and she once said to me,"Mom, I hope I love my husband as much as you love Daddy." THAT is worth MORE than gold girlfriend!

They watch, and model what they see and hear...Your 15 year old sounds awesome! Funny how as they get older they aren't afraid to "GENTLY tell us" where we are falling short...:) We all win when it's rooted in the RIGHT place!
    peace,

  9. Kim,

To know that our children are watching is the greatest reason to be an example! I loved your thoughts on holding them accountable to quiet time..my husband does this with our son. If our son is talking with him about a particular struggle he has had during the day, my husband will ask him "Did you have your devotions today"?

Thank you so much for sharing this!

  12. Wow! You are so encouraging! This is my first time to your site and my first time to "officially" participate in "At The Well". I had my first child, a daughter, 8 months ago. Being a mother is such a blessing! You have given me some wonderful verses to keep me focused on God's will for me as a mother!
    Blessings ~ Sara
