I'm joining Nan Meme today at Moms The Word. If you have something that's making your home sing, feel free to join in!
I recently started game night with the kids. It's so recent that it only started two days ago.
Mental note though. Don't start to late in the day, after a busy day, or when you are tired.
I really want this to be a time of fun and fellowship with my kids. I know kids LOVE it when their parents play games with them. But we seldom do. So to Make My Home Sing, I am designating Mondays as "Family Fun Day". The kids will get our undivided attention at playing a game of their choice. Except Monopoly (This game brings out the worst in me! LOL),
Scrabble (Because I am Scrabble Queen!), Boggle ( You can't beat me so let's not try!)
But I will play the games pictured throughout this post with them.
Most of you know that I am very competitive and I admit that I have no mercy when it comes to playing games with my kids. I never "let" them win. I've just never been able to do it.
So when they do win it's quite a victory for them. But seriously, Candy Land is PURE luck anyway. Where's the skill? Huh? Yeah, I didn't think so!
So think about me when I'm sitting here playing a game with the kids and moving their pieces for them or rolling the dice for them or telling them where to move.
We're having fun right? My home is singing right? I'm completely OCD right?
I'm okay, right?
You love me right?
Have a great day my friends!!!
Now go make your home sing!!
Oh and if you have any game suggestions for this OCD lovin' Mom, let me know!! Remember my 4 year old has to be able to "kind of" play.

ReplyDelete:)
smooches,
Larie
My kids love to play Battleship and The Scrambled States of America. I love that game myself!
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
Love to play games! We like Phase 10, Uno, etc. etc. LOL!
ReplyDeleteWe have game night too! I think it is really important.
ReplyDeleteUm, yeah, I'm glad you don't play "Boggle" with the kids,... you ALWAYS beat me at that game! And, at least your little guys have Aunt Kathy who always seems to lose 2 out of 3 games of connect 4 (she's special). :) I love you my best friend!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a game night! We need to do that with our son - he is always asking to play. We like the same games, but he also used to like to play Sorry and Mousetrap. Now that he's a little older, he also likes Clue, Scattergories, Battleship. Fun stuff!
ReplyDeleteBig I-think-I-would-be-scared-to-play-Monopoly-or-Scrabble-with-you hugs to you!! Have a fabulous day my friend!!
Oh, and I have to laugh because I know it will bother you to know that you were WRONG about the number of exclamation points! :) Love ya!
Kim,
ReplyDeletePlease stop by my blog this morning to pick up your very special award.
Love and Hugs ~ Kat
Oh that is great! What a way to make your home sing Kim! You could play Charades!
ReplyDeleteWe used to have Monday as game night, then switched to Fridays, and now we just have it whenever we are all home and somebody thinks about it.
ReplyDeleteWe use to play match up games, or yahtzee for kids or any games geared to a three or four year old. Even Sorry! worked, as long as we helped him.
Then, after the youngest went to bed we played a game or two of an older game that our eight year old would enjoy.
Have fun and thanks for linking up today!
Just found your site and enjoyed your post.
ReplyDeleteMy daughters are grown now but I remember oh so well "game night" at our house. We usually had in on a Thursday evening each week and we took turns letting the girls choose which game they wanted to play. Ofcourse you run the risk of playing Candy Land over and over when you have girls!
As they got older we moved family night outside whenever we could and went bike riding, or walked paths at our local State Forest or if rainy we had a jar with ideas in it, and we would pick one and play whatever it said.
I loved those nights, mainly because it was time all together that we seldom ever let anything else take it's place.
I salute you with a big "Hurray" for starting your Family Nights. Your children will talk about these times even after they are grownups!
Daisies to you,
Lee Ann

We LOVE to play games here at our house. We just spent Saturday night with some friends learning a new card game - Golf.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!!
We love the game uno attack. So fun. I have also heard that Apple to Apples is a great game. Model is awesome at trouble.
ReplyDeleteI really need to a game time into my homeschooling. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWe play Sequence. It is somewhat strategic with teams of two or three. We only do game night once in awhile. It is a lot of fun when we do though.
ReplyDeleteMajor kudos to you, friend, for making family time a priority in your week! *Doing a happy jig in your honor* :-)
ReplyDeleteHow funny, my kiddos just asked yest. when we could have game night!
ReplyDeleteLOLOL, I had to chuckle at this!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I'd love to have a regular game night! We really enjoy "Sleeping Queens" here...it's a card game. "Clue" is also a favorite.
ReplyDeleteWe started a neighborhood Game Night last year and the kids like it as much as we do. Pictionary, Triominos, Star Wars Trivial Pursuit (how do they remember all those things), Jenga, Five Crowns, and Catch Phrase have all been part of our line-up. It all depends on how many people we have that Saturday night. I think you'll love it.
ReplyDeletewe love charades...It is hilarious to see a 4 year old act out some of the nouns...hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI love playing games with friends and family too and miss having the free time to do so as often as I'd like.
ReplyDeleteSince you and I are the Scrabble Queens....hee hee hee.... you have to know my latest game craze.... Scrabble Slam! It's a card game!!! You make 4 letter words! Fun, fast and the family loves it. Go to your nearsest store today and get your inexpensive set and play with your kids.
Have a great day!
