Love is in the Air!

Next to Christmas I think Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday to decorate for.
I reuse a lot of things from the year before but I always try to add a few new inexpensive touches to my decorating.

I had a coupon for Joann Fabrics. So what's a girl to do? I HAD to use it.
But I only spent about $6.00 on Valentine's stuff. Aren't you proud of me?
I'm not completely finished with my decorating. I have a couple of more crafts to do but I thought I'd show you what I have so far.
First off I'll show you what I made.

Isn't it cute?
All I did was buy a plain wooden sign for a $1.00 at Joann's and then painted it. Easy smeasy right? It only took me about 8 minutes to do. Give it a try. Easy and inexpensive fun decoration.

My friend Kathy actually inspired me to do this little birdhouse because she had made one similar for someone and I just thought a Valentine's one would be adorable. What do you think?
I bought this at Joann's for a dollar as well. This took maybe an hour off and on waiting for it to dry in between. I'm going to show you how easy this is to make at the end of this post.

I like simple decor'.
Here is my dining room table.
Do you have a hurricane lamp? Do you have those irritating wire things with hearts on them that you never know what to do with? Well do what I did. Stick them in the hurricane lamp. It adds dimension and a nice touch!

This is what I have on my hutch.
I also have those cling hearts on my mirrors and windows to add a nice dash of redness here and there. You can get those at the dollar store.
I'm going to make some garland and then I'll be done.

Now if you have no interest whatsoever on knowing how easy the birdhouse was to paint then you may go. I don't mind and completely understand that you have things to do.

BUT if you do want to see how easy it is then proceed! (and I like you best) Shhhh!

You start with this.
Pick out what colors you want to paint it and then paint your base coat on.
Like this.
I picked red and pink!
Next let's put on some wood siding. You can paint semi straight lines can't you?Add a couple of dots here and there for nails. Easy right?

Next let's give her some shingles and add a little highlight to your wood planks.Just take an accent color and run it along one side of your plank. See how I took a little black and ran it along the left side of the white?

Now let's highlight the shingles.Same concept. Just on one side left or right. This time I used the white on the black.

Now here is where you can get creative. Put vines, flowers, etc. all around it.
But don't forget to highlight them. You can see the difference it makes.
I chose to do yellow heart flowers and a vine with small yellow hearts on it because yellow was a nice bright color against the dark red.
Here's the finished project!
What do you think? You gonna try it?
Let me know if you do. I'd love to see how it comes out.

LOVE YOU MY FRIENDS!

  2. Very cute! I like the sign you made. I put some of that heart garland in a tall vase, too, and I wrapped some of it around the handrails on the stairs.

  14. I have to avoid places like JoAnn's. Why on earth a TOTALLY UNartsy/crafty person, such as myownself, is so attracted to a place like that is beyond me. I'm pretty much in awe of your talent. Reckon the centre of my decor will be chocolate wrappers again this year. 8-]

    Love ya loads, sweet thang!
    Have a JESUS-filled day!

  16. So super cute my friend - you are SO crafty!! Love that bird house - that is too much detail work for me - I don't have the patience I don't think.

I have nothing much out for decor right now. Winter does not inspire me - it makes me complain even though it's very short here! :) But I should try to put out a couple Valentine's Day items.

Big of-course-you-like-this-holiday-'cause-your-name-is-Homesteader's-HEART hugs to you!! Have a lovely evening friend!
