Intentional Summer Fun!

This year I wanted to do things differently. I wanted to purposely plan our Summer. Usually we just kind of do whatever and then wonder where our Summer went. This year we needed a plan. So I got right to work.

I started out by searching the internet for fun Summer ideas. There are TONS of websites out there. All you have to do is a search on “Summer Fun” and you’ll find plenty.

The day I started my quest I saw this Summer Survival Guide e-book from Life as Mom. It’s chock full of Summer fun ideas, printables, worksheets and fun themed week ideas. It’s $9.00 for the download but I highly recommend it.

THEN the next day my dear friend Sheri posted a free resource on her website that just fit right into what I was doing. Click here for the free Summertime Fun Charts. I used one of them to put a few of the fun things we are going to do this Summer.

Each time we complete an activity we put a smiley face sticker on it.

When it’s all filled up we are going to take the kids to go do something fun!

I was also busy printing tons of fun worksheets and crafts to do.

I’m all about staying ahead of the game this year.

Here are a few of the websites that I used to find these.

My Summer Fun Pinterest Board

We have this empty wall space that I am going to put all our Summer fun projects on. By the end of the Summer it’s going to be covered full of fun memories made together. I’m going to take lots of pictures this Summer and make sure that each week I get some printed off so we can scrapbook our Summer as we go.

Another idea I had was to give each child a poster board and each day we are going to add a Summer piece to the picture, until we have a full blown Summer portrait. For example, Day 1 we might color a sun and paste it to it. Day 2 we might make clouds. Day 3 Flowers etc. until it’s full of Summery fun. That of course will be hanging on the wall I spoke of earlier.

I’m very excited about this Summer and so are the kids. I hope this has given you a little boost in the right direction. My advice is to take the time to gather all your items ahead of time so all you have to do is sit back and make the memories.

This Sunday kicks it off for us. We are going to make Tie Dye t-shirts and I’m going to put Summer 2011 on the back of each shirt so we can look back and remember the fun, each time we wear it.

HAVE A FABULOUS SUMMER!

  2. I posted this late at night and I'm your first comment??? What is going on? Well if that doesn't deserve a second comment from me, I don't know what does!!! :)

  3. Good for you! I made intentional plans for summer for the first time last year, and I will definitely be doing it again! It just made the summer go so much more smoothly, I think. Schools up in Canada only get out at the end of June, but I think I'll be setting the same goals for July and August that I did last year.

Hope you have a wonderful summer!!

  6. I really like this idea more and more. Can I ask how old your kids are?? At what age did you start doing this w/them? I have a 20 month old and would love to give themes across summer.
