My One Word For 2014…..Persevere!

One Word 2014

Persevere : to persist in anything undertaken; maintain a purpose in spite of difficulty, obstacles, or discouragement; continue steadfastly.

I like the idea of choosing a word to focus on throughout the year. Because typically if we don’t focus on something we will lose sight of things pretty quickly.

I know myself pretty well. Yup, me, myself and I are all pretty close. I also know that I have a tendency to get gung ho about something and then 2-3 weeks later (if it even takes that long) whatever “it” may be, falls to the waste side.

I think that’s why when I was thinking about my one word for this year, PERSEVERE popped into my head before any other. It’s a motivating word. A word with direction, but it’s still just a word. How can this help me? Well in choosing this word I went to the Word. I know that in the Bible I will find a verse to stand behind for the upcoming year. One that will encourage me to press on when I don’t feel like it.

Here’s that verse:

Romans 5:3-5 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Do you have a word for the year? What is it? Why not try and look your word up in the bible. It might be there with an encouraging verse to help you through your new and exciting year.

I’m going to try and do what my friend Lisa from Stop and Smell the Chocolates did last year and give updates about how I’m persevering throughout the year.

Who knows maybe I’ll come up with some super fabulous new way of conquering my household chores……….aaaaaaannd maybe not.

Have a lovely day my friends.

OXOX,

Kim

  1. LOL, I read the post title too quickly and thought it said "preserve." Hahaha!!! Boy, we are all trying to do that. You picked a great word for the year. Perhaps you can do a monthly report? I really like my "look ahead" posts that I do each month (with a little bit of reflection from the previous month).

I don't pick yearly words, but DH and I have a saying that we adopted. I'll highlight it in a post later on today.

  2. Kim,

I love your word. I think it is one for my hubby you is a non stop professional procrastinator. But I will let God place that on His heart. My word in Commit. It means for me, to stay the course that I decide to place my trust in. Not to waver or give up when the going gets hard. I'll definitely add you to my prayer list this year and would love your prayers for me as well.

    Love and Hugs ~ Kat

  3. I hope it works for you!

When I first heard of the word of the year thing a few years back I thought what a great idea. Now everyone is doing it and I feel the need to rebell against the word. Don't ask me what goes on in my head. If everyone else is doing it, I must run away! (said with silliness and sarcasm...)

  5. Awesome word my friend and thanks for the mention! :) Diligence really did work out well for me and doing the updates helped keep me on track. I haven't posted yet about a word, but the one that I seem to have come up with isn't fancy at all, it's just "Do."

Big glad-you-persevered-in-posting-about-perseverance size hugs to you! Love you!!
