Laura Lee's Song Challenge

Laura Lee over at Laura Lee's Lifesong is having a giveaway. Her challenge to us is for us to tell her a testimony about a song that has changed our life. You can go over to her site for all the details.
I thought since this was Sunday it would be a perfect day to blog about my song.
My song is Amazing Grace. I was raised in a Christian home and we went to church every Sunday. I remember singing this song plenty of times as a child, never really thinking about what it was saying or better yet what I was saying. I think it was after I rededicated my life to the Lord and was in church one day with my husband that this song came to life. The church we had been attending for about 5 years had grown quite a bit. They played mostly Contemporary Christian music each Sunday, but this particular Sunday they whipped out the classic. I don't think I made it through the second line, when I started crying. It hit me like a ton of bricks what my Lord and Savior has done in my life. Near the end of the song they stopped all the instruments and just let everyone sing. The church sounded like a group of Angels that morning and I got a glimpse of what Heaven is going to be like some day. I can't sing that song without thinking of what the Lord is to me and how His grace covers me. The lyrics are below and I want you to take the time to just read them, well sing them to yourself and really think about what it's saying to you.
Blessings my friends.

Amazing Grace Song

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me -
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught -
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear -
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares -
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far -
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me -
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be -
as long as life endures.

When we've been here ten thousand years -
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise -
then when we've first begun.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me -
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

  5. Beautiful testimony and beautiful song! I do tear up every time I hear it and never realized when I was younger the full meaning of it.

It is sad how many people sing it and really have no idea what they are saying.

And I love that it has the word "wretch" - an excellent description. I don't like it when they change that word in some versions.
