Tackle it Tuesday- Do we really "need" all this stuff?

Today and probably the rest of this week, I'm tackling clutter and extra "stuff". I could probably survive on half the stuff that I have and be happy. Probably happier because I would then have more space and less "stuff" to clean or move around. We don't live in a great big house, it's average size, and when things like "I wish we had a bigger house." , start coming out of my mouth, I know there is work to be done. We don't need a bigger house we just need less stuff. I mean do I really need 30 coffee mugs? Hmmm, do I? My guess is no. I don't even have 30 friends to invite over for coffee at one given time. So with that said let the purgefest begin. I am going to purge from every room of the house. I am going to then pile it all up in the middle of the room, take a picture (of course) probably blog about it next week and then off it will go to Good Will. Is anybody with me? Who wants to purge with me? Mmmm that sounds inviting doesn't it? Should I start a MeMe for that. Call it" Let's Purge Thursdays"! LOL. Okay sorry, that's what happens when I haven't had my coffee in one of my 30 mugs yet.

So that's my tackle for the week. Come back to see glorious, glorious pictures of my stuff later on in the week.I know you will be sitting by your computer in anticipation! But for now you can find more tackles at 5Minutes for Mom .

Have a most EXCELLENT day!
HUGS!

  1. I am with you! It happens every December/January. You get new stuff for Christmas and nowhere to go with it. So, out with the old and in with the new:-)

  2. Hi Kim! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I actually followed you here from Homestead Blogger (I was Carolina Wren over there!). Yep, I am still in NH and still trying to get out! I remember following your hopes of getting out of Florida, too. Looks like we're both still waiting! lol! I love your new blog here, by the way. Wish I knew how to tweak mine with all the HTML stuff.

    Blessings,
    Maria

  4. Ugh....ok, I need to be with you on this one! In anticipation of moving somewhere this year, I really need to pare down the "stuff."

Sadly, the coffee mug illustration hit a bulls-eye on my target. I love my mugs!! :(

  5. This makes me tired just to think about it. Maybe the "Purge Fairy" will go to my house while I am at work and when I get home...well a girl can wish can't she. I really need to be with you on this one. I DID throw out a lot of my old Christmas tree and decorations that was just taking up space. That counts huh?

  6. Yeah I've been purging for months now - and then all these relatives give my kids one zillion toys for Christmas! We live in a crackerbox and need less, less, less!
Looking forward to pics of your progress!

  7. Kim,

I love your new blog look. You are absolutely correct, the more room we have in our home, the more junique we collect. I am so guilty of this. We doubled the size of our home 6 years ago. It is busting at the seam, because I have accumulated too much junk.

  8. Just keep asking yourself : Have I used this in the last year? Then if not - out it goes! Easier said then done, right?

  9. Great idea! I need to do that, too. I did get rid of lots of coffee mugs several years ago, but they have a way of building up!

Was hoping to do some of that this week, but now will have company, so maybe next week I can start!

    Big hugs to you!

  10. Pack rat & clutter bug comes to mind. LOL! But it doesn't take much for things to collect.
My MIL kept everything the kids made including the hospital bill.
My solution is take a picture of it. That way I still have the memory.
    Have fun.

  11. I just started the purge this morning- beginning with my shoe closet. Yes I said closet- for my shoes. Should anyone have so many shoes that they need their very own closet? I'm hoping my linens make it back into the spot they are actually supposed to be in.

  12. Let's purge Thursdays sounds a fabulous idea in theory although I doubt we'll manage it around here in practice.
    Cheers

  13. You're so funny! I've been purging since before Christmas, believe it or not. I'll send you a pic of my pile, which is so tall now, it's going to take an entire box of trash bags to cart it all to Gleaners' International. I'll bet my pile is bigger than your pile! jk.

  15. Hey, sweet thang! I took a big ol' purge break for the holidays, but it's definitely time to get back to it. Just before I got online, I piled my bed with a ton of stuff to sort through. UGH! Why DO we keep all this stuff?! Anyhow, my strategy is... if I put it on the bed I HAVE to do something with it TODAY. (We won't talk about the days that come to an end and I have to hustle to put it all back where it was to start with.) 8-}

Blogger lists don't always update, it seems, coz I have posted since Christmas... sorta. I extended the giveaway deadline.

    Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

  17. I probably have that many mugs, too. lOL! Some of them match my dinnerware; however, I don't use them. My faves are my huge cups that hold more coffee. Speaking of - I'm off to go make some more.

  18. It must almost be January because you are coming down fast with the "urge to purge" bug! It commonly manifests itself after putting away 10 tons of Christmas STUFF in every storage nook and cranny. Is there a cure? You bet! Just start giving it away, selling it, or tossing! We did a LOT of purging in the past two years and I don't miss any of it. And there is still plenty more to deal with, LOL. Oh yeah, I'm there!

  20. I had to laugh when I read this today. I have been devising my plan for decluttering my house the last 2 days. Have to take it in baby steps as I only have limited time each week to devote to it. But this is great motivation to keep going! Thanks and can't wait to see the pictures. :)

  21. Kimmy,

I love to do this. And I think it is great to take inventory and start taking what we don't need to give to those less fortunate! Truly, you go girl.

But save a coffee cup for me. Hugs to you!

  23. I'm also doing de cluttering at my home. It's the chance to give what you have to people who need it. I hate clutter. I want my house clutter free by new years. Doylene

  25. I think that is a great idea. BUT I am planning on building on to our house. I do want bigger and I do want to display some of my pretties that I have had for years. I went from 3,000 to 1485 sq. ft. Come on now, that is really little. But yes, I will clean out and cull out too. I promise!
