Charlotte Mason Homeschooling Week- Day 2

It's Day 2 of your Charlotte Mason week and today I'll give you a glimpse of a "typical" homeschool day.
What is typical really? I find that no two days are alike in this adventure. There are days that are busy and there are days that aren't. My kids are 15 (9th grade) 6 (1st grade) and 3 (trouble maker).
My 15 year olds day goes something like this.
Bible Reading
Journaling
Consumer Math ( Really the only "Curriculum" we use)
Reading (usually history books or biographies)
Copywork ( Usually bible verse)
Studies of interest ( Here is where it because individualized. She was recently doing a study on Jane Austin and that time period. This lead to many venues of interest. Like their clothing, homelife, location etc.) So a lot of our history is done this way.
A couple times a week she will do either poetry, music, or art appreciation.
She is also learning to play the guitar. A pink one no doubt!!
She then logs these things of interest on notebook pages. Almost like scrapbooking. Here is an example of her Notebook.

This was a fun page for her. She researched the different period hair styles. It was neat to see how much things changed.

This is a page from her flower study. She would take pictures of flowers from our yard and then do research on their habitats and such.
This is part of her Jane Austin study. She had great fun doing this as well. We watched all the movies and she's still reading the books. She went crazy with this and learned a lot from it.
My 6 year olds schedule goes something like this.
Phonics with Me
Copywork ( Usually I'll write a bible verse and he'll copy it beneath it)
Math (Addition and Subtraction worksheets off the computer)
Nature Journal (This can include many things. Trees, birds, insects etc)
Simple Science projects
Art
Here are some pages from my 6 year olds notebook.
This is his copywork.
We would do leaf rubbings and then identify the tree. He loved doing this.
Here he set out with the camera to take pictures of some "animals" in our yard and then he identifies them.Once we exhaust a subject we move on to the next and then the next and so on. It never gets boring and if it does we just move on. There is so many fascinating books out there to read. We use our library system a lot! Free is always good. Now and again a field trip comes about and that's always fun.
I hope you've enjoyed a glimpse into our homeschool day. Come back tomorrow as I'll share my favorite links, books and resources.

Have a great Tuesday!

  4. Very neat, and I love how everything is in binders...very organized. Love the verse to Even a child is known by his doings...my kids memorized that for their "E" verse.

  7. I am laughing so hard after reading you label your 3yo as "trouble maker". That sums up my little guy too! He's been especially so as of late because he's refusing to nap. Ack!

All the pages on this post are wonderful - great job!
