My 3 1/2 Minutes of Fame!

Have any of you ever been on the radio for whatever reason or tv even?
I was just remembering this story and thought I would share it as it's a pretty good laugh. Well to me it was, you may not think so, but because I want to remember it forever and ever, I'm putting it into cyberspace for all to enjoy! Wow that was a really long run on sentence with commas placed just so, wasn't it?

Here's my story. Back in the day, my cheap, 20 year old clock radio would only get one station clearly, so I set my alarm on this particular station. I think it was Mix 105.1 for all you Floridians. Anyway, every morning about the time my alarm went off, this game called, "The Battle of the Sexes" would be fixing to start. They would ask for a girl caller and a guy caller. I had tried calling in before but had never gotten through. Well this particular morning things were going to change. I decided to try calling in again but this time I got through and I was told that I was the "girl" caller (I'm really glad they determined that early on). In this game they would ask a guy questions that most girls would know and the girl questions most guys would know and who ever gets the most right, won a prize. As I waited for the game to start my heart started pounding out of my chest! Talk about an instant waker upper! They cue me in on what is going to take place. I sit for about what seemed like a century but was actually only a minute or two. So with sweaty palms a racing heart and no idea what the questions were going to be, they come back on the phone and I am on the air with Scott and Erica. I meet my challenger and the questions began. We each got asked 3 questions. To make a short story shorter I got one right and he didn't get any, so I won! I was so excited and then they told me what I'd won. It was concert tickets to a group that I had never heard of in my life.( I really don't listen to a lot of secular radio) Here is where my theatrical training (or lack thereof) came into play, I Ooo'd and I Ahh'd and got so excited over a group that I had never heard of before in my life. The whole time I was cracking myself up. I got the tickets in the mail and we ended up selling them for $50.00. So it wasn't all bad!! Well there it is, my 3 1/2 minutes of fame story. I wish I would have had a cell phone handy to call people while I was waiting so someone could have heard me! Well, someone that I knew. Thousands of people heard me but they didn't know it was ME!! If you've ever been on the radio or tv I want to know why! Tell me your short 3 1/2 minutes of fame story.
Have a most excellent day my friends!!

  2. That is awesome, Kim! Now, I know a celebrity!!! LOL!

You are so funny! I won a radio contest once that I need to share. It was called the Maalox Moment and you had to write in with your story of a Maalox Moment, well, mine was more like a Maalox Day...not a moment. Needless to say...I'd had the day from...well, you know where. When they called me to tell me that I won and they said thwy knew it was true because no one could have made a story up like that. Hehehe! I won a trip for 2 to a resort about 3 1/2 hours away. We had a great time. Now, you have me reliving that time in my life and wanting to share it also.

    Have a great day!

  3. How cool! I'd have sold them, as well, after doing the 'how exciting' act. LOL! I was on radio years ago and won... I wanna say like $200, but I'm not real sure of the amount. It was probably rhe station's call #. Anyhow, the deal was to know the last 7 (or some # thereabouts) songs - AND artists - they played before the signal. Then you had to be the __th (insert random #) caller.

I've been on tv several times. In high school, I sang with Fred Waring's chorus in one of the big concert halls in... uuuhhh... St Pete, I think. In Daytona, I went to the bandshell to see Nashville on the Road. I had on my big shades and a floppy hat and one cameraman came up and held the camera right in my face (well, profile, actually). I didn't know whether he wanted me to turn and look, so I stared straight ahead for at least 30 seconds Do you KNOW how long 30 seconds is?! When it aired, my MIL called from Jax. We hadn't said anything, but she recognized me. So much for my disguise, lol! Another time, at USF, I sang a duet from Oklahoma on their closed-circuit channel. Seems like there might have been 1 or 2 more, but more as a member of the crowd. Wow, what a trip down memory lane! You should have made this a meme, lolol!

Oh, yeah, I won a couple of Christian radio contests. Cassette tapes, I'm sure. In one, I had to answer some obscure question. The dj wondered how I knew the answer... I said, 'we homeschool... HSers know everything'. *bg*

    Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

  5. Oh wow - I didn't know you were so famous! Now I am intimidated to be your friend - LOL!!

That is very exciting and so cool that you were able to sell those tickets. I don't think I have ever been on the radio or TV. My only fame would be high school plays and being interviewed for the local newspaper about being in a play. I got my pic in the paper and a short bit about the show. I was doing a Monty Python skit with a British accent - LOL! It was for a comedy dessert theater we did each year. I do wish I had video of all that stuff.

Big Radio STAR Hugs to you!!!

Oh, and I finally have my post up - and thanks to you, sort of, I am getting off the computer now until much much later. :)

  7. How cool is that! And you made money off of it, too! Bonus!!!!!

I have no 3 1/2 minutes of fame story, unless it would be that day when I ran from the elephant at the zoo.
