Who's Training Who Here?

WARNING: This post may cause you to doze off unexpectedly. It may also cause part of your brain to turn to mush. It may slowly suck you into my world from where there is no escape! Read at own risk!

I think I may have mentioned briefly in a past post about our resident squirrel Skippy. It all started when my husband decided to get some unroasted, still in the shell peanuts to feed the squirrels so they would leave our bird feed alone. My son didn't realize he meant leave some peanuts out, let the squirrels come get them and we watch from our window. No he decided that he wanted to hand feed them. So one day he sat out there very still until one out of about 10 squirrels decided that he looked like a face he could trust and slowly and very timidly he made his way to my son and took the peanut from his hand. Now until a squirrel actually comes and takes a peanut out of our hand he doesn't get a name but since this one did, we named him Skippy. Since then another squirrel has slowly and very cautiously started making it's way to taking peanuts right out of our hand. Her name is Peanut! We now fight, okay maybe not fight but we all want to feed the squirrels now. As of right now we only have Skippy and Peanut who take from our hand. Skippy will actually see us from across the yard and come running now.
We thought we were so clever, until Skippy made an appearance on our screen door which happens to have a big giant hole in the screen. He wanted a peanut and he was fixin to come and find one! LOL. We gently shewed him away, but now he will sit on a post outside our door and do his squirrel call and I'm like "Oh, hey, it's Skippy. I need to go get a peanut." So I ask you? Who's got who trained?
And if you aren't completely bored with this post yet there's more. This squirrel has 9 lives. Why you ask? Because I've seen a hawk just barely miss him, I've seen him run out in front of a van and stop just shy of becoming road kill, and get this, he almost got hit by a guy riding his BIKE! See I have this problem. Whenever I get attached to anything in my yard it usually dies. This has happened mostly with the birds that nest on our property and flowers. So it's sad to say but I've actually been praying for our little squirrel Skippy.

Here is my son feeding Skippy for the first time.

Here is Skippy waiting patiently for us to bring him his peanut! LOL.
If you're still with me then you really must love me! I know this post probably made your brain feel kind of mushy, but I've been kind of unmotivated lately, as you know from my prior post, so not a whole lot has been going on that was too exciting. I have some things I want to sew but my sewing machine is acting all stupid, so I can't. I still have that "list" to tackle but I'll probably wait until the last day to do it. LOL!! I am picking up some chocolate today though! That's SOMETHING! Right? Right?
So if you completed this whole post I'm sure it pretty much ate up your whole day, but if you're like me you don't plan on doing anything any way! LOL. Oh how I kid. I have to eat!!
Love you gals!

  5. How adorable is that?!? My kids would LOVE a 'Skippy' of their very own.

Thanks so much for the sweet comment over at LWG today. Nice to know that there are other moms who suffer from control-freakitis. :O)

  8. What's that? Sorry, I must have dozed off. :)

I am very glad you finally got some chocolate my friend - now I can continue with my comment!

Love the squirrel stories and pics - so cute!! Be careful though - a friend of my son's reached out to a squirrel at the park, was bitten, and had to get the whole series of rabies shots.

Come on - I know you can work on your list! I finally got my post up today and it's about working on a project that I have been procrastinating on. Supposed to have it done in 2 weeks, so that means I don't have to get started for about 13 days - LOL!!! And I can "pump up" with chocolate until then.

Big hopefully very tame squirrely hugs to you!!! :)
