Homeschooling My Highschooler and a Sale!

We are not your typical family. We don't watch "tv", family is our first priority, I am a stay at home Mom and wife, and we LOVE the Lord with all our heart. You might be saying, "That's not so odd." Believe it or not in today's society it is. The Lord has a way of changing you. I swore I would never homeschool, yet I home school. I knew I never wanted any kids when I was a teenager, yet I have 3 beautiful children. I never thought I could find a man that would love me so much after my divorce, yet I did! God is good and when we listen to Him and his direction, life is so much more meaningful.
Now on to my daughter. She is unusual (in the worlds eyes). She has grasped her roll as a teenage girl who wants to wait. Wait for what? Wait for the for the man who the Lord has intended for her and her alone. She doesn't want to date and explore, she is learning her roll as a future homemaker in the safety of our home. She has gotten ridiculed by others because of her modesty and lifestyle of choice. She has maturity beyond her years and we are very proud of her. So since she's now in High School I wanted to find something that would embrace what she is trying to accomplish. I then "stumbled" across this curriculum by Lynda Coats. It's called Far Above Rubies and it is wonderful. We are going to start it really soon. Here is the website that will tell you more about it if you are interested.

Now for a great sale!!!
Also I wanted to tell all you homeschoolers about this great sale that Notebooking Pages is having. Everything is 50% off for the next 2 days. Just click here to go there. I bought their whole set last year and we love it.

I know that a lot of homeschoolers read my blog so I hope this was helpful for you!
As for everyone else, if you read it, then I'm impressed! LOL.
Come back tomorrow for Friday Funnies!

  1. Great post this morning, Kim! I don't have daughters, but I'm awed and encouraged by yours! I also like the link to the Notebooking pages sale!....I've used their stuff in the past and will be looking into them again, as we are now planning to home school the kids again next fall. The Lord is gentle but persistent when He calls you to something...we've hs'd in the past but always found some "reason" to stop. No more. The schools down here are a world away from small-town NH and maybe God brought us to this point to really "push" us this time! lol! Well I'm rambling but just wanted to let you know I enjoy your blog so much!

    Blessings,
    Maria

  2. Hi Kim,
I loved this post. We do a sort of modified homeschool...(distance learning at home) and I have 2 girls who are growing up to be similar to yours. My oldest starts high school next year (at home:-) and she is just a precious young lady of faith, too. She is not into the whole teen drama and has goals and interests that she is working toward that do not include getting wrapped up in a boy. In fact, they just started their own blog but since they won't be talking guys, using trashy language and so on, will probably have mostly family who read it:-) Oh well...the way of the world. Anyway, I look forward to following your blog and best wishes to your daughter.

  8. Thanks so much for sharing that. I really don't want to home school, but my husband wants me to. I would like to, I guess I just am not confident enough. So thanks for reminding me that God can change my heart. It is so true! He has about 5 years to prepare me for homeschooling, so here's praying He does! Oh and the story about your daughter is just great! I am glad to hear there are teenagers out there with such great morals!

  9. I thought I was reading about myself when I read your post today. I also never thought I would have children, never thought I would find someone who truly loved me after my divorce, and never thought I would homeschool. Today I home school 3 children, Girl 15 and 2 boys 11 & 7 and I am happily married to a wonderful man who loves the Lord with all his heart. My daughter also has no desire to "date" and wants to wait for the Lords leading, and has, at her own choosing, changed her lifestyle to be more modest. I am always inspired by her maturity and how responsible she is. It is so nice to "meet" others who live similarly to you. Good Luck and God Bless!

  12. I have heard of that program before - sounds like it will be such a blessing for your daughter! I'm excited for you! And great about the sale on pages - I have to look at that again.

Glad you like my new pic - decided to wait until you noticed. Not sure how long I'll keep it, but it makes me laugh. I put it on twitter too and asked some people about it - they said they liked it so I'll keep it. Of course, they could just be good liars - LOL!

I can't handle the pressure that Sophie Mae is putting on me with the comments!!! :)

Big your-daughter-is-a-precious-jewel hugs to you (couldn't do a funny one today unless it would be pages-and-pages of hugs)!! :)

  13. Hey Kim! Wow, I am right there with you on this.
Both my girls take their purity seriously and it's amazing how much they get picked on it even at church.
But God is good and I see Him blessing them now and in the future for their obedience and love.

    Great post!

  15. Wonderful post. Our daughters are exactly the same; here in our home and safe. They do not wish to give their hearts over and over to the wrong boys.
One has graduated homeschool, the other has not. They are wonderful modest young women learning many things here in our home.
    Way to go momma!!!

  17. Tell your daughter, "You go girl!"

I think many of us wish we would've changed how much we made boys a constant distraction in our lives as teens.

  18. The world might call your family unusual but I call you BLESSED! I know that you are extremely proud of your daughter and you certainly should be. There needs to be more young ladies in this world like her and we would see a world of difference in the society that we now live in.

Our church does a "Purity Is Power" retreat every year for our young girls from 1st - 7th grade and it has made a huge impact on these girls.

I commend you for raising you daughter in a godly home, with morals and values.

    ((hugs))
