Inexpensive Wall Decor'

Why is it that the parents room is always the last room to be finished? Every room in the house has been done at least once and some rooms twice. Ours is yet to be finished. BUT it is now on it's way. I'm going to give you a little sneak peak.
Well first off we painted it. It WAS a light teal greenish color before and when we first moved in 11 years ago, I had a temporary interior design meltdown and put a seashell stencil around the whole top of the room. It was pretty ugly but we lived with it for 10 1/2 years. *sigh*
Buuuut... after 10 years I've finally regained my composure and I'm a woman on a mission. My husband has pretty much given me free reign. (Thanks Honey!) I do run things by him just to make sure he likes things but he's pretty much letting me run with it.
To start things off my dear sweet blogging friend Lisa sent me this little extra gem with a giveaway that I had won. (She blesses me so much!)
She knows that I love to laugh and this just kind of threw an idea in my head of what to do for my side of the bed. So I went to Bealls Outlet and found these two wall hangings to go along with the "laugh" theme. Here they are grouped together on the wall. It's so me. Oh and if you are under 49 years of age you get a 15% discount on Friday. So I got these two other pictures for like $5.00. Not bad. Thank you Lisa for that bit of inspiration.

I can't say that we really have a "theme" going on in our room. I think I'll call it Shabby Beachy Cottagey Chic'! LOL! All I know is that we wanted our room to be fun, bright and happy. We did a little trash to treasure by using a window out of my Grandmother's old house in Maine. We happen to be up there around the time a nice man was remodeling it and he gave us like 5 different windows. I went to JoAnn Fabrics and found this fun flip flop print. I used my 40% coupon and got it for $6.40. And of course the window was FREE! Above the picture is one of those cling on easy decor writings. I also got that at JoAnn Fabrics and used a 40% off coupon and so I got it for $8.35. It says" A good laugh is Sunshine in a House." It was so quick and easy to put up. I really really like it. We kept the window kind of shabby chic' because it just adds character. This is over our bed.

On my husbands side of the bed I kept it more on the inspirational side as he loves the word of God. So I thought these were perfect. I found them at Wal-Mart. I think they were $4.00 a piece. But they were perfect for his side. There is actually scripture on it too but it's hard to see it in the picture. Our bed is next. It's slowly coming together but you'll have to wait to see pictures as I'm trying to put the finishing touches on it!
So don't forget if your 49 and under Friday's at Beall's Outlet you get your 15% off everything. I think 50 and older it's on Monday. If you have a JoAnn Fabrics near you be sure to sign up for their flyers. They have valuable coupons and their sales listed in there. It's not just fabric, they have everything. So be sure to always look in to your favorite store policies. So many of them either send out coupons or give you certain days with discounts. It's well worth checking into to save some money. Oh and don't forget your local thrift stores and garage sales!
Tomorrow I'm going to show you what being in the right place at the right time got me! Woo! Hoo!
HUGS TO YOU ALL!

  2. Usually your blog makes me feel jovial, but today it has made me very green with envy.

Just you mentioning that you went to Bealls Outlet has totally bummed me out. One year when we were vacationing in your neck of the woods, I got all these great deals and spent less than a total of $50 for Christmas gifts. I'm glad that you are keeping it in business though, so that when we venture to the Sunshine state again I can hit all of them within a 50 mile radius!

    Nice redo on your room! Now all you need is an alarm that laughs to wake you up and a laugher instead of a clapper for your lights to turn off and on! ( ;

  3. I love, Love, LOVE the window with the flip flop pattern! I would have never come up with something so creative, but since I'm thinking of redecorating (or decorating if we get this house we're looking at), I may have to borrow the idea!

  5. I love it!!! I love your idea with the window. I bought an old 9 pane window from a junk store about a year ago (haven't gotten around to it yet) but I am going to refinish it and put it in my office as a collage of pictures of my family in black and white. Hopefully, I will get that done this fall when it cools off...enough to get in the garage to work on it.

I will be working on all my posts this week to highlight our wonderful vacation and meeting all my bloggy sisters...stay tuned.

Gotta get to work this morning :-)

    ((hugs))

  6. I love your decorating my friend - very happy and cheerful!! Glad I helped a tiny bit!! Your window idea was very cool!

No Bealls Outlet here - too bad, sounds like a great place. I should venture into Joanne's more often, but I usually find my best decor deals at the thrift store!

Guess I better not stay here too long, since I have all that cleaning I have to do - LOL!!

Have a wonderful Monday my friend and big laughter-is-the-best-medicine-and-the-best-decor-too hugs to you!! :)

  8. Kim,

I love all your wonderful ideas but also where you located your treasured finds.

  10. It is looking really good! I like it! I know what you mean about your bedroom being the last to decorate. We have lived in our home for over a year now and I still have no curtains in my room or anything on the walls. I will get to it eventually though! :) Can't wait to see what else you have done.
