Holly Jolly Week Day 1

Hello my friends.
Welcome to Holly Jolly Week here at Homesteader's Heart.
It's going to be a fun week. A little bit of something for everyone.

I've been working frantically to get these crafts done so I could show them to you. I've actually done quite a few things this year but it would take longer than a week to share them all with you. But I might show just pictures of some finished projects later this week.

This is Day 1: Easy Christmas Crafts
Now I understand that some of you aren't crafty and may skip right over this post but don't forget to leave a comment if you want to be entered into the giveaway. You can see what's being given away here. To get a run down of the rest of the week go here.
This post is going to appear long but it's mostly going to be pictures and instructions on how to make these 2 crafts.
I really tried to come up with things that are easily made, in a short amount of time.
I hope you enjoy them.

First up is the Puzzle Wreath Pin.
Supplies:
Puzzle Pieces (small size)
Green Spray Paint
Ribbon
Glitter Glue
Pinbacks
Elmer's Glue
And
Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue

First I laid a bunch of inner puzzle pieces on some butcher paper outside.
If you want a matt finish lay them face down, if you want a glossy finish lay them face up.
Then in a well ventilated area spray them with your green paint.
It doesn't take them that long to dry.
When dry, bring them into your work area.
Have everything you need handy and ready to go nearby.

Now lay out 5 puzzle pieces to form a circle.
This is your first layer. You will have 3 layers when you are done.
For your second layer take your Elmer's Glue and run a strip down the middle of the puzzle piece. ( Remember it will dry clear so don't worry about it oozing out.)

Now start your 2nd layer by overlapping puzzle pieces.
Here I have 3 pieces done on the 2nd layer. Each layer will have 5 pieces.
Add your 3rd layer.
Now is the time to add your adornments. I used glitter glue to add a little sparkle. You can use little gems or beads. Just get creative.
To put the bow on top I used hot glue but Elmer's should work fine if you don't have a hot glue gun. Now leave it alone and let it dry for awhile.

When dry, you are then going to put the pinback on. I also used hot glue for this but you might be able to get away with Elmer's here too. Just load it up good.
Allow to dry thoroughly before trying to pin on your shirt.
I usually do a few at a time.
And when you are done you have cute little festive pins to keep or giveaway!

The next craft I'm going to show you is for all you crocheters out there.
This is so easy smeasy. You can whip these in no time flat.

It's a Crocheted Wreath Ornament.

Supplies:
Pipe Cleaners (Color of your choosing.)
Yarn (Color of your choosing.)
Ribbon
Crochet Needle Size J

Shape a chenille stem into any size circle.
Attach the yarn onto the chenille stem any way you wish. You can knot it on, or slip stitch it on.

Cover the entire shape with the following sequence, pushing the stitches together to fit on as many as needed: Make 3 single crochet around the stem. Treating the stem as you would a previous row of stitches. Chain 5, make 3 single crochet. Repeat all around the shape. Slip stitch to join.
I looped a little extra yarn to make a hanger and then tied it off.
Now here is where you get creative.
I looped pretty gold ribbon through the chains and tied a bow at the top.
I had these pretty bells so I added them to the middle. But you can use pretty beads or whatever you have. Have fun with it. Try different color yarn and ribbon.
Hang these on your tree or give them away with a gift or cookies or something.

Well there you have it.
I hope you are able to do these and have fun doing it. I know I had fun.

Tomorrow I'm showing you how to do a really sparkly ornament.

HOLLY JOLLY HUGS TO YOU ALL!

  2. This is so much fun. I am now singing, "Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas..." Your crafts are great. I really like the puzzle idea. The crocheted one is great too but it brings back memories of when I almost failed GAs at church. I could not crochet probably because I was more interested in talking to my friends than learning how to do it. Ha!!!

Anyway, your post from yesterday seems to have disappeared, but wasn't something mentioned about making note in our comment that we're a follower??....cuz, y'know, technically I've been a "follower" since before you even came here! ;)

Looking forward to this week! Bring it on!!

  17. So guess what I did tonight??

I made puzzle wreaths... so far I've got 29 in the works. We're making one for each of Cam's teachers and one for both of Riley's teachers and ALLL of her classmates. We need 31 total... and we're almost there!

Will blog them in a day or two, so be sure to watch for it. I'll give you a shout out for giving me the idea. =0)
