My Thoughts on Selling a Home!

I thought it would be "fun" to put the random thoughts that keep making their way around my brain, down on paper.
Hello Paper!
Part 1 is My Thoughts on Selling a Home
Part 2 will be My Thoughts on Packing
Part 3 will be My Thoughts on Buying a Home
Since this is our first time selling a home, I've learned some things.
Here they are in no particular order.

  1. Selling a home is stressful.
  2. All of a sudden you see everything that's wrong with your home and it never bothered you before but now it does.
  3. Your life can go into an instant cleaning and tidying frenzy when you get a phone call saying someone wants to come look at your house in 2 hours. It's times like that that you need to have a tub of Toll House Cookie dough on hand to throw in the oven. (Though instead of a cleaning frenzy it probably would have turned into a stress induced cookie dough eating frenzy!)
  4. You get defensive when you hear anything negative about your home. It's alright if YOU say it but by golly don't let anyone else say it.
  5. Getting a contract on your home is STRESSFUL.
  6. Depending on other people to do their job in a timely manner is stressful.
  7. Having your Realtor go on vacation for a week while your home is getting inspected and you need some answers to questions is stressful.
  8. Sitting here for 2 weeks with 95% of your life packed in boxes and wondering if the buyer will back out of the contract for some reason is stressful.
  9. Knowing you only have 2 weeks till your closing date is stressful.
  10. Not knowing for sure where you'll be in two weeks is well, you know!
  11. Knowing that I don't have ANY chocolate in the house is stressful. What's wrong with me? LOL!
This is quite a journey. One that we are still very much in the middle of.
But we believe that God is going to do great things.
I hope you stick it out with me as we go through this.
This is the only thing on our fridge these days!
Our constant reminder.

Love you my friends!!
First thing tomorrow I am so buying me some chocolate!

  1. I think I'm getting the picture...stressful, right?

Actually, I agree, selling a home IS stressful. We've done it twice (and we will soon be doing it again!), so I understand exactly how you are feeling.

    Praying for you.

    Love,
    Patti

  2. I can so identify with this!

Keeping a 4,000 square foot house clean on the spur of the moment was so hard. At least now I only have 1,100 square feet to clean.

I had my CDs all ready to play soft jazz music and I boiled some sweet smelling stuff on my stove which created a wonderful aroma. I also lit the fireplace despite 100 degree heat for ambiance and cranked down the air conditiong.

    Thanks for the memories.

    Hugs,
    Debbie

  3. I feel your pain. Been there a few times...and getting ready to do it again. I hate being in full time clean/picked up mode:-)

The cookies sound like a great idea and how wonderful will your house smell. Re: the chocolate, go for it! reminds me of a book I'm reading by Joyce Meyer...Eat the cookies, Buy the shoes.:-)

Hang in there. Can't wait to read more of your adventure!

  4. Oh dear, did you mention "stressful"? Yes, selling a home or buying a home, or moving, these are definitely stressful. You are coping very well, especially if you buy some Dove dark chocolate to help.

  5. I can understand that it might be a teeny tiny bit stressful? Only because of the lack of chocolate, right?

Best wishes to you and your family on a smooth end to this so you can begin a new chapter somewhere else that will be an amazing home for you guys.

I'll be checking in on you from time to time and hope all goes well.

  6. Okay..I will make you feel so much better!!

We have been packed up ..everything..(I had to go dig in boxes for canning stuff) since October.

We were loosing the house to the bank..we weren't even getting to sell it...

Then God intervened..morgatge company worked out a lower payment..we are still all packed up..We NEED to put it on the market..we are waiting for the market to get a little better here.

So do you feel better? And I haven't eaten chocolate in 20 years and I started it last week..
Oh my..it does seem to help!! lol

    Hugs..and prayers to you!!

  7. You nailed it! :) Our selling last year was our first experience, too. SO so so stressful....I don't care to ever do that again thank you very much! It's amazing how many parallels you're having to our experience. When we left NH, we had NO idea where we'd be living in FL!!

God IS in control! My favorite verse - then, and now - is Psalm 46:10..."Be still, and know that I a God...."

  8. Girl, how could you let the chocolate get to crisis proportions? Have I taught you nothing????

I have my hubby actually hide chocolate, and when I run out I call him and he tells me where it's hidden. Of course, he continually has to find a new place....

Yes, the whole moving process is stressful.

We put our old home on the market when our youngest was just a couple of weeks old.

I worked my behind off getting ready for an open house, and our young realtor called the day of and wanted to cancel. She said she was sick. Personally, I believed that she had a hangover.

I told her I worked to hard for to long (plus I had bought a bouquet of flowers for the house) and that she needed to get someone else to take her place. I was not happy.

She had told me she was going to a fun party the night before and that's why I believed that she just had a hangover. It was frustrating and I had a newborn and had worked so hard to get ready, you know?

  9. My parents are in their late 70's and they are trying to sell so they can move into a retirement village. They are getting very stresses as it needs to sell ASAP. We are all praying that the people wanting to buy it can find a seller for their home.

  15. Kim,

Here is praying that it all goes according to plan and you'll be on the move in no time. Praying that you can locate a sufficient amount of chocolate to help you through this time.

  18. Oh my goodness, I have been through this! It is the PITS!! Hang in there, it will end. Did I ever tell you about the time we were trying to show / sell our house, had it on the market, and one morning our 4 year old son drew a big picture of a car on the kitchen wall in magic marker? That was the fastest repainting of a wall I have ever done! I was not a cheerful happy homeschooling mommy that day!
