Just Paint It!

I love wood furniture. We have a lot of it. The problem is, none of it matches.  Which is okay if it’s at least the same “kind” of wood.

Let me introduce you to what we will call “Exhibit A” a.k.a our Dining Room.

Here are all the pieces of furniture in our dining area.

Let’s start out with the table. The main thing in the middle of the room.

(Please excuse the handsome young man counting his stash of moola!) LOL!

Nothing fancy. We don’t do fancy. We do practical. Fancy give me a nervous twitch.

Next we have this cute little table.

Then there’s my grandmother’s antique table.

I love this table.

Then we have one of my hutches.

And last but not least a brown mirror with a wooden shelf above it.

What’s the common denominator here?

If you guessed WOOD then you are correct. Give yourself a cookie.

Now if you scroll back through you’ll notice all the different “kinds” of wood.

That’s the part that drives me crazy. So what’s a girl to do? If you guessed PAINT you are once again correct and deserve another cookie.

I’ve decided that I like the whole gardeny shabby chic look. So that’s what I’m going to try to accomplish here in this room.  Oh and I’m trying to talk my hubby into painting the walls white.

The table is being left alone (for now). The hutch is getting painted for sure. The mirror and the shelf too. The little table will be painted an accent color and I’m leaving my grandmother’s antique table alone.

Any suggestions on paint colors? I want light and airy. Throw your ideas at me!

Have a FABULOUS day!

P.S. Still working on the profile pictures. Stay tuned!

  2. Whew! I was hoping you'd say your were gonna leave the antique alone. You had me scared for a second. I mean you could paint, but it would ruin its classiness.

About the linky... I don't remember which one you were using, so I don't know which one started charging for it. I know of Mcklinky, Mr. linky (uh I think), Simply Linked, and inlinkz.com. Not sure if that helps you at all or if you've already tried these and they have failed or decided to cost $$$.

  3. Girl, your are so talented...I wouldn't even think of doing all of that. I can't wait to see with your creations. I like the sage green chic look.

  4. I'm pondering about painting some pieces too....only problem, my wood furniture matches each other!! What I want most to paint most are my wood stained base boards and wooden windows and sills. Yikes! Scares the crap outa me!
I'm glad to hear you are not painting your G-ma's piece!!

  5. My hubby just refinished and repainted a kitchen table and chairs for our son and his future wife! The top of the table and the seat of the chairs is wood finish, the legs are painted white. It looks great...I'm sure your furniture will, too!

  6. For the hutch what about a light gray or blue and use a glaze over it? Sounds like you'll be crazy busy and having fun too!

  8. I have the SAME issue. However, I am going to go with this stain my brother introduced me to that will stain over stain. I'm going to go darker. However, I might wait to see how your turns out before I make my final decision.

  9. I like painted walls with white trim and white furniture. Then you can add all sorts of colors to match the room. That's what I'm doing with my new 'mom-cave'!

  10. You already know my suggestions: Paint everything in various shades of white (mirror and shelf same shade of course). Little table pop of red. Grandmas table - leave it alone! ;).......... paint the table white... lololol

  11. White... But then distress it!!

  12. I second Kathy's choices....plus she is your BFF and she knows you and your house! :) But I am a red girl !

Can't wait to see what you do :)

  13. All right. We must be traveling the same path. I just got done watching 4 episodes of "Get it Sold" and I'm walking around the house with my nose scrunched up. Not a good thing for my family! Lol!

I think those pieces would look good painted, but that's where I would need help too. I am color challenged. Even my high school art teacher said that when I added color to a sketch it tended to take it down hill!

That said, I might leave the walls alone and paint things white/distressed, too. If you want to add another color, you could paint the drawer of the little table an accent color, and ad du-dahs in a matching color to the hutch and the mirror/shelf.

  14. Oh I have lots of mismatched wood at the moment! Still thinking about what to do - and hubs forbids shabby chic - LOL! I know that whatever you do will turn out wonderfully my friend! Have fun!

Big you're-the-queen-of-furniture-painting size hugs to you! Love ya!
