The other day was my super duper hubbalicious’s birthday!
I had posted on my FB page that I was going to reuse some candles. Candles that don’t even match.
These candles.
(My hubby said I had the numbers messed up! In your dreams baby!)
Most of the people who commented about my candle “frugalness” were on my side. I only had one opposition that said I really should have gotten him matching candles. My hubby didn’t seem to mind. In fact they were the perfect candles for the perfect cake.
And by perfect, I mean perfectly ugly. It was probably THE ugliest cake I have ever made in my life. It was a GF Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese frosting. (Which has nothing to do with its ugliness, I just thought you’d like to know.)
Don’t be jealous!
Watch as the 4 sinks slowly into the frosting.
Hurry honey blow out the candles before the 4 completely disappears!! Blow, blow now!
The Happy Birthday song seemed to take forever as I watched the 4 slowly start to lean to one side.
But it all ended well. The candles still blew out like new ones, my hubby still turned a year older regardless of the ugly cake and my family had a full, happy belly when the night was over.
Life is good!
Have you ever had a cake fail before? In terms of either looks OR taste OR both! Do tell.
Too cute!! & Happy Birthday hubby. I love the candles & the memories this has created.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful day ~

Oh boy have I had failures before. I used to have a wedding cake business and there were some major disasters during those years - from things that didn't look quite right or taste quite right to wedding cakes falling down at the reception.
ReplyDeleteNo worries, I'm sure it tasted good and your husband was probably thrilled at the effort.
Oh dearest Kim, have "I" ever had a cake fail? LOL... Of course, I guess that all depends on what qualifies as an actual "fail"...I am currently throwing cake into the freezer and re-baking an entire 10 inch layer...sigh. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I am positively wheezing and snorting. Man! Only you could pull off telling a story like this. Thank you for the laugh this morning. The cake looked yummy, so while it may have fallen, it certainly wasn't failin. :D
ReplyDeleteOh how I love you! You crack me UP!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your honey ~ I just have to say he has got to truly appreciate your frugality. Honestly, years from now when you all are talking about b-days THESE are the memories that will bring joy, laughter and warmth to your hearts.... unlike if you had the "Proper cake, candles and well you know..."
You rock girlfriend! Love you
Hilarious...and hey, at least the dish was cute! ;)
ReplyDeleteNone of my cakes are pretty. But when you are cooking for all males, that is totally not an issue. Plunk a bulldozer on the top, and the mess becomes an instant work site that looks like you totally planned it. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI've never made a cake that failed (pure luck), but I have a childhood memory about one...I was about 6 or 7 years old. My mother had made a two-layer chocolate cake for me. As everyone was singing "happy birthday" to me, we all watched the cake split right down the middle and fall apart! I was so upset, but it didn't affect the taste at all!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your hubby...I wish I were his age again! LOL
Happy birthday to your hubby...I need those same candles (switched around) for my birthday in a few weeks : )
ReplyDeleteI hope that he had a wonderful birthday! Egads, he's now in his mid-40s! LOL, such a young'un!
ReplyDeleteHappy 43rd Birthday to your hubby!
ReplyDeleteI made a birthday cake for my daughter once with 1 cup salt instead of sugar. It didn't rise, tasted AWFUL...avan the birds didn't like it LOL!
Oops - thought I had already commented! Happy Birthday (super late) to your hubs!! Oh your cake did give me a laugh - seeing the 4 sinking! :) But it really doesn't matter because I'm sure it was fabulously delicious! And if he's anything like my hubs, he really doesn't care about the candles.
ReplyDeleteMost of my cake fails have involved the cakes falling apart while getting them out of the pan though I've also had lopsided layer cakes.
Big man-your-hubs-is-waaaaaaaaaayyyyy-older-than-you-and-me-hahaha size hugs to you!!! LOL! ;) Love you friend - hope you had a super weekend! Hubs is off tomorrow so we're enjoying 1 more day of weekend time.
lol...lol... yes and yes! I have made a meringue on my high school and it came up tasted like candle. I don't know what is the missing ingredient but I had fun though. lol.
ReplyDeleteYou and your husband are very funny. This post is really brighten my day. Really.
Thank you.
