A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

I have a confession!

I am a closet reader.  No really. I am. I actually like to read in my closet.

Here’s why:

  • It’s quiet. (No kids allowed)
  • All my books are in there
  • It’s quiet!

I’m actually in the process of looking for a more comfortable chair to put in there. Nothing to big of course but something a little more lounge like.  Sometimes I’ll even lay out on the carpet and read.

Many a times I’ve heard the kids wondering through the house asking for me and wondering where I am. I snicker silently to myself as I sit in my happy place, book in hand. Oh don’t worry I usually let someone responsible know where I am in case there’s an emergency. But every once in awhile I escape go to my little closet and just recoup and do a little reading.

I know, weird right?

Do you have a secret hiding reading place?

  2. Hi there, I totally understand the need for a quiet, cozy secret place. I used to just go into the bathroom and lock the door. Happy reading!
    Happy Easter, Noreen

  3. Totally funny. I have a nice walk-in closet like yours, but I don't read in there. I read in the dining room or the bathroom...yes, embarassing, but true :) Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)

  4. What a great idea, Kim! This gives a whole new meaning to "coming out of the closet" too. I see cookbooks there! Hope you stumble across a real comfortable chair. (Your closet is neat. I'm convicted)

Happy Easter to you and yours!

  5. I recently put a cozy chair in our bedroom for reading/having my quiet time.

I have never read in my closet, but when my boys were a lot younger I would sometimes have a little quiet time (and a little chocolate) in our pantry! :)

  6. I love it! I read in the basement before the kids get up, or in my bedroom lying on my bed with the door shut. :)

  7. Love your happy place! I confess I go into my closet as well- only I don't go there to read... I go to pray. I call mine my Prayer Closet! I stand, I sit, I kneel, and sometimes I am just flat out on my face! It is truly the BEST!

When I read, I just say to my Son ~ "Hey you want to grab our books and go read together?" He hasn't ever turned me down! WE LOVE IT :)

    HAPPY ALMOST FRIDAY MY FRIEND!!

  8. I don't have anywhere that good, but I can see the attraction. But you do need a more comfortable chair!! with no small children, this is no longer a problem - but I have been known to take a book to the bathroom!

  9. What a great idea, Kim!
I read in bed, very boring and standard I know..but I used to be anti-bed so it's kind a victory for me to lie in bed and read LOL!

  11. I know someone who wrote their Ph.D. thesis in a closet, so that can only mean that deep thinkers retreat to their closets to engage in intellectual pursuits! But I think you DEFINITELY deserve a better chair, girlfriend.

  12. That's a fabulous spot my friend - it's huge! And sooooo neat & tidy! You're not the first I've heard having a reading spot in the closet - some even have a hotpot to have tea right there!

  15. When my daughter was a little girl I transformed a walk-in closet that was in my hall into a play room for her with a table and chairs, a kitchen set, and posters on the wall. She loved it!
