Little Man’s Birthday! Inexpensive Birthday Fun

Earlier this month our youngest celebrated his 8th birthday. The thing he wanted to do the most was go bowling. So we gathered up our coupons and headed to the bowling alley. If you like to bowl make sure you sign up for their coupons through email. Six of us bowled for 2 hours and it included shoe rental for only $29.99. It also included a pitcher of soda but we skipped that part cause we don’t drink soda. Our besties had another coupon and got the lane right next to us.

We are all about family parties. That includes chosen family, since we don’t have any “real” family nearby except my MIL, who was more than happy to be there.

Here is the birthday boy with the cake that my BFF Kathy made for him. It helps having a best friend that makes cakes, I’m just sayin’.

Here’s our family photo of the night. Yup, it was important to get a picture of our matching bowling shoes. Because we’re cool like that.

I’ll just leave you with some random picture of the night. But I won’t show you the really unflattering picture of my BFF and I because that one is to be burned (or deleted) before it falls into the wrong hands and used against us somehow. Yeah, it was that bad.

Picking out the perfect ball.

Never be to busy to pose with your ball. I think Confucius said that. *cough*IMG_5535

Such form on this kid. I’m pretty sure he could go pro. *smile*

Here’s my BFF and I, over 40, trying to look cute in a bowling alley and then realizing it ain’t gonna happen. Yeah, we need a life.

There were a lot of random butt shots of all of us bowling but that’s not so flattering to anyone so I’m going to spare you those pictures. You’re welcome.

In the end we had a fabulous time and didn’t have to spend an arm and a leg for it.

Do you do family parties or do you go all out and invite a bunch of kids over?

Have a lovely day!

XOXO,

Kim

  1. Aaawww, that looked like a great time! I really got a kick out of several of your photos - the shoes in a circle (genius!), the B-day fella with the lime green bowling ball, and the adorable CAKE! The best present of all for the little man is a family who loves him dearly!!! Happy birthday to the young fella!

  2. I guess we do a little of both. Usually our "family" that comes has kids our kids age so it kind of comes out even kids and adults.

Do you have kids bowl free in your area? I think it's all over the US during the summer time. Yep, it shows a US map, I just checked. Go to kidsbowlfree.com and check it out. There's also kidsskatefree.com too if you have a skating rink in the area. Both have restrictions on times but they're usually workable.

  7. He's just so adorable! And 8 now - wow!! Looks like you all had so much fun and the cake is fabulous!

We have only done a few big oarties over the years - 1st bday we invited family, friends, & a bunch of people from church. 5th bday we invited a bunch - had cake at a park, then went to a swimming play structure area that we rented out for a while - super fun. I think it was his 10th that he invited friends that went bowling & came back here for cake & ice cream. For his 13th, we let him pick 3 friends and hubs & another dad took them to an amusement park to ride roller coasters, then back here for cheesecake. Most of the other bdays were just us or we included a couple friends.

Big birthdays-are-the-best-because-there's-always-cake size hugs to you! :)
