My Summer Bucket List!

 First of all my "What I'm Loving Wednesday" post got postponed due to technical difficulties. In other words my computer needed an overhaul and it didn't get done in time so that will be up next week. 

For now I want to share my Summer Bucket List. 

I like being intentional about doing things because things seem to get done more so than if I just wing it and let each day just go by. Also by blogging my progress it kind of holds me accountable to try my best to accomplish the list. And by list I mean all the "fun" things I want to try and do this Summer. This is the first official summer that I won't have a child in school. My youngest just turned 18 and is graduated! Woot! Woot! I feel so free! 😁

So without further ado, my list. 

And just because I no longer have young kids doesn't mean I don't have you covered. My Summer Board on Pinterest is full of fun ideas. Not to mention I have a ton of links to cute bucket list checklists like the one I'm using. So go check it out.

Summer Fun- Let’s Go To The Movies!

First I have to admit that we aren’t big movies goers. It’s not because we don’t like going to the movies but usually there isn’t anything that we can see as a family. (We are very particular about what we watch)

But this Summer there were actually some fun movies that came out and so far we’ve gone to see two.

The first one we saw was Monsters University. You’ll like this movie more if you’ve seen the first one and know the main characters but it’s not a must.

I personally loved this movie. At one part of the movie I actually fell into a full blown belly laugh and if a movie can do that for me, it’s good.

My favorite character ended up being Art. He’s the purplish fella. He was completely hysterical in the movie.

And while we were there we got our photo ID’s made. My bestest and I decided to share an ID card and all I can say about my boys is that they’re “special”.

 

The next movie we went to see was Despicable Me 2. I really want about 4 Minions. They kept us laughing through the whole movie. I also love how Gru genuinely loves his girls and how they adore him and see only the good in him. Very cute movie. It may even be better than the first one.

If you want to save some money go to the shows in the morning when ticket prices are around $4.00 per person. Our local theater even has free movies during the Summer if you are looking for something to do during the week.

Summer Fun- Board Games!

 I really do love to play board games. As the kids get older it gets even funner. (When is Mr. Webster going to realize that funner is a word?) The competition gets more intense which makes for interesting game play.

We’ve played some of our favorites already this Summer and if you are a friend of mine on FB you probably saw our first kick off game.

It was this one.

Phineas and Ferb Monopoly game. What I love about this game is that it makes regular boring Monopoly more fun. Well at least for us it does, because we like Phineas and Ferb. Other than that it’s played just like Monopoly.

It took us two days to complete but it was fun. For me, because I won. Bwah ha ha!!

They slowly went down, one by one by one by one. *smile*

  

Hey, someone had to win. That’s all I’m sayin’!

And just so you don’t feel to sorry for them, those shots were staged just for fun. Cause that’s what we do, we have fun!

Another game we like to play is Blokus. The downfall about this game is that it’s only 4 players and there’s 5 of us, so we usually play this while my hubby is at work. But what I love about it is it’s very strategic. You can think you are dominating and the next moment you can be shut down with nowhere to go. It takes no time to learn and even my 8 year old loves to play it and is GOOD too.

Trying to figure out which piece to put down first seems to be the hardest thing for me. My daughter and middle man actually tied in this game.

See, I don’t always win.

Cadoo is another favorite of ours but once again it’s only 4 players. They do have rules for teams but we just go ahead and play this one while hubby’s at work too. What I like about this game is it’s interactive. You may have to go find things of a certain color or make something out of playdough and have your opponents try to guess what it is. It’s fun and younger kids can play but if they can’t read you would have to read the cards for them which can be a challenge if you aren’t supposed to know what it says.

And last but not least and probably not even last, just last in this post, is the game I bought last year. Phineas and Ferb 104 Days of Summer Vacation. Do we like Phineas and Ferb? Why yes, yes we do.

This game has you doing all sorts of crazy stunts. Like bouncing a brain off the wall and trying to catch it while blindfolded.

Or maybe trying to stack certain objects while blindfolded and needing them to stay for 5 seconds without falling over.

How about a good thumb wrestling match to see who moves forward in the game. And a nice blurry picture to document it. *smile* Or you could possibly have to build a fort out of certain colored objects before the timer runs out.

Whatever you have to do, it’s fun for all ages. Especially when you win, like I did. Hee! Hee!

Just call me Isabella the winner.

Summer Fun! Coffee Filter Butterflies & The Tie Dyes!

There are so many butterflies flying around our front flower garden right now that it inspired me to do this next project with the boys. Sometimes nature is all the inspiration you need.

I gathered our supplies of:

• paint brushes
• coffee filters
• clothes pins
• paint
• pipe cleaners

It was really easy. We just painted 4 coffee filters for each butterfly, stapled them together, painted our clothespin, and then put it altogether.

Here they are working on theirs.

We wet the filters before painting them so it would give them a bit of a water color effect.

We had a lot of fun doing them and now they hang on our Summer fun wall that we fill up throughout the Summer with things that we’ve made. If all goes well this wall will be full by Summer’s end.

And for those of you who were looking for the finished tie dyes from this post, here they are. 

I actually had to take a couple out of the wash just for this picture. Yeah, you needed to know that.

Sooooo as you can see our boys strayed just a wee bit from the tie dying rules. My Middle Man’s is on the left and I know for a fact that he probably isn’t going to wear his EVER. Little man’s is on the right and he loves his and has already worn it 3 times. Guess who’s I had to take out of the laundry?

Our daughter and I stayed within the boundaries of the tie dying laws so ours came out looking more like your typical tie dye shirts. But like I stated in my prior post, I’m going back to the squirt bottles for better saturation next time.

And then you have my hubby who went in a completely different direction but actually had great success. I think his looks pretty cool.

Kicking Off Summer Fun!

Two years ago I started making our Summers more intentional and it’s totally been worth the effort. The whole family gets excited about what I’ve got planned.

If you are thinking about making your Summers more intentional then here are a couple of tips.

• Things don’t have to be elaborate. Something simple like making ice cream or coloring a Summer themed page together is fine. (The important thing is that YOU and hubby, if he’s available, do it with them.)
• Gather your supplies ahead of time. I start planning Summer fun WAY before it actually happens and then I put my supplies in one location.

So typically we kick off our Summer fun with the tie dying of t-shirts. Well this year was no different except my boys ventured off the normal tie dying ways and did their own thing. I being a structured, if it’s not broke don’t fix it kind of gal, suggested they do things the way we’ve always done it. BUT they didn’t. My youngest loved his but my middle man wasn’t to crazy about how his came out. 

The supplies. I opted to try the spray tie die kit but next year I’m going to go back to the squirt bottles. The spray didn’t saturate through the shirts very well. Plus it got every where you didn’t want it to go. Just my opinion.

This picture cracks me up. We all get right to work while my middle man (pictured left), has a spot of tea. Ha! Ha! Our family’s special.

Little man got started right away. I’m pretty sure he used half the bottles on his shirt alone.

As you can see they strayed from the normal tie dying ways. There was no tying involved in their creations. Which is fine for them but not me. Noooooo.. 

 

I ALWAYS do things by the book. *cough* See how I tied and then dyed? Yeah, I’m good like that.

 

 

Hubby didn’t tie his either but his actually came out really cool.

 

I bet you’re looking for the finished shirts huh? Yeah, well I never got a picture of them all finished and the start of my Summer fun posts were long overdue.

Here’s what I’ll do. I’ll hunt them all down today, take a picture and then put it in my next Summer Fun post. Okay? Okay!
