Old Fashioned Blogging!

Or you could even call it Old School Blogging. I miss it. I don’t think I’ve ever strayed to far from it but I miss it from other people.

I’ve been blogging for over 6 years now and believe me you can look back at my archives and see that not only my writing, but my photos have come a long way. But I believe that to be a positive thing. It’s when I found myself writing just to get comments or clicks or likes that I found the joy of blogging diminishing. I even went as far as taking a little break last year.

So many of my friends that I met through blogging have quit. Gave up for one reason or another. I miss them. My reader that was once full of stories about family life and homestead happenings are now full of organizing tips, Pinterest links and giveaways. I still follow those other blogs but nothing is being said. They remain silent.

When I blog I want it to be because I believe in something, something I’m passionate about. When I have a giveaway it’s because I want to share the love. When I give a hint or tip, it’s because it’s helped me personally and I’ve got to share it with my peeps. When I share a funny story, it’s because I want you to laugh right along side me.

This blog is a reflection of me and who I am. That can’t change. I’ll never have just one niche. I’m too complicated for that. *smile*

Money Saving Mom wrote a great article about Breaking the Blogging Rules.

And you can find another great article here about going back to old fashioned blogging.

So you may never find high quality photos or front pages news here but you will find a gal who’s passionate about living her life out (Lord willing) to the best of her ability and who feels the need to share it with you because she knows you sit on the edge of your seats waiting for the next big post. *cough* She also knows her way around a run-on sentence.

So there you have it. My post, without a cool picture in it or anything. I’m a rebel and don’t you forget it. *smile*

Have a lovely day

OXOX,

Kim

  1. Well, I kind of sort of still "old fashioned" blog, I haven't changed anyway. :)

But, I did have to cut back a bit too because I got obsessed with comments and people liking me and well, it all had to take a back seat. I don't get many comments anymore, not like I had that many to begin with, but I still blog once in a while.

BTW, I read most of your posts even if I don't comment because you blog "real".

  4. You're right! I stopped loving blogging when I became worried about the number of comments, followers, etc. I really need to get back to the reason I started blogging, to share with friends and family who aren't nearby and to create a virtual scrapbook for my children.

  5. I love, love, LOVE old-fashioned blogging! I think some blogs have fallen into an impersonal mode. And I think you hit the nail on the head about bloggers needing passion and to translate that passion into their posts. I have seen a lot of blogging friends over the years just flat disappear. Many of them got sucked into the black hole of Facebook, never to be seen or heard from again. (And I don't do Facebook.) Some just get burned out by it, which is where you were not too long ago. When it becomes a chore rather than a joy, it certainly makes sense to give it up.

Blogging has to be personal, by definition. And I tend to gravitate to those bloggers who have interesting things to say about their lives. It gives me a chance to peek into a world that is different than my own. Most importantly, I have made wonderful friends through blogging. I didn't know that would happen when I started in January 2008. But it did! And you are one of the dear friends I made that very first year. Hooray!

So let's clink our ice tea glasses together and celebrate old-fashioned blogging!

  6. Impersonal blogging is simply that...impersonal. I enjoy reading about life celebrated in ways unlike ours. It's about communicating your story that God is writing, so that God can be seen and glorified.

  7. I don't have a blog but I can tell you the thing I hate most is all the wordless Wednesdays, the thing where they just have each other leave a link on each other's blog. So when I want to read a blog all I find are links and links. I want content. I find that here, good job.

  8. YES! :) Some of the blogs are gone; some have become so professional that they feel "cold"; some now have others doing the posting for them, etc. But I think I'm seeing the hint of a trend of coming back to old-fashioned blogging. I think some are realizing that the numbers don't mean real people who really read and connect unless there is that personal side.

Big I've-tried-to-blog-in-many-different-ways-but-always-come-back-to-me size hugs to you! Love you and your "old-fashioned" blog my lovely friend!! :)

  9. I'm super glad you've stuck with it. Like you, I've landed in a place of just being myself & writing the way God has wired me, not to impress or get comments. And He even changed my motive with commenting on other blogs, genuinely & as my priorities allow...not with the motive to have them visit my blog & comment back. I may never be "popular" because of it, but I've found freedom & peace there.

Like you, I miss the good ole days. It's kind of like when you join a church & it's small, then it grows & grows and isn't the same place anymore. That's kind of how it seems like it's been with blogging. And Facebook has replaced so much of it. But hopefully, we'll keep blah, blah, blogging on & grow along in the process.

    Love you, my friend!
