What Does Your Calendar Reflect?

It's funny. At the beginning of the year I bought a cute one year calendar planner that has been sitting on my desk ever since. I've opened it up and starred at it, wanting desperately to write something in it. But I got nothin'.
Now it's how you view this that's important. At first I viewed it as, I have no life and my family must have no life. Then I woke up this morning and realized it's not that I don't have a life, it's that I have a life worth repeating day after day and I'm pretty good at it now. I like that!
In this season of life, we don't have a lot of "extra" outside activities taking us away from home.
But that's okay. I'm not complaining. I love my home and I love being in it. Ask anyone that knows me.
So I would say that my calendar reflects the fact that I will be sitting on my front porch with a glass of ice tea as some point today. You wanna pencil that in and join me?
Anyone need an 8 month calendar?

Oh yeah! Speaking of calendars, I forgot to take a picture of my lovely calendar for you this month.
So here it is. And if you haven't had the privileged of reading about the calendar ordeal, it's a must read to appreciate this.
(Notice the empty boxes. LOL)

Click on it to read it. It's pretty good!
HAVE A GREAT DAY MY FRIENDS!

Such Beauty!

Once and awhile, our little ol' Kodak Easy Share camera surprises me with a beautiful photo straight out of the camera.
My husband brought these flowers home to me to plant in front of my deck.
Only God could make something so spectacular!

Now I just need to find the stick with the name of what kind it is, on it. Either that or go back to where he bought it and pick up another one! Hee! Hee! Yeah! I'm liking that idea!

Aren't they beautiful?Song of Solomon 2:12

12 The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of singing has come,
And the voice of the turtledove
Is heard in our land.

Have a Blessed Day my Friends!

Thrifty Candle Holders!

I was able to run by the thrift store yesterday and in my hunt, I found 3 pairs of pants for my boys (like new and one pair Levi's) and these little treasures.

I honestly have no idea what they are or what they are "supposed" to be used for, but I saw pillar candles in them.

Then I walked past these little beauties a few times and decided that they would go perfect in my "Cafe" theme by holding tea lights in them.

They have a really pretty design and the color went perfect with my decor'. They look really pretty all lit up.

Here they are on my hutch. Isn't that just a nice calming glow? I love candles.

Now back to the stainless steel thingys. I've done the coffee bean filler before but did it again so you can see the versatility in what you can use to add a different feel to your decor'. The possibilities are endless. You could use candy hearts for Valentine's Day, potpourri, beads, etc.

But ultimately I decided to go outside and use some of our landscaping rocks. Shhh! don't tell my husband. Maybe he won't notice.

I didn't want to just set them on the table the same height so I used a plastic container with a handkerchief over it and put one of the candles on top. But I can't decide which I like better on top.
Tell me how you prefer it. The red one on top or the white.

So what was my thrift store grand total for 3 pairs of jeans, 2 stainless steel sunthins', and 2 glasses?
Right around $13.00. Not to bad I say.
What have you found thrifty these days?

Have a fabulous day my friends!

Trash To Treasure! Kids Artwork Display!

On our vacation to Maine a few years ago we got to visit my grandmother's old home. I had many great memories of this home and cried as soon as I stepped foot in it. A nice man happen to be remodeling it and to make a long story short, he gave us 5 or 6 old windows from it. I used one already and posted about that here.
But this one I decided to make into something that could house special drawings that the kids make each week. It not only makes the kids feel special to see their art work up on the wall but it's decorative too.

All I did was put a nice fresh coat of white paint on it. Then I took some light green and just randomly brushed it on, gave it a light sanding and then painted "The Family is one of God's Masterpieces" in a bright orange and had my handy hubby hang it for me on a wall that all will see.
It wasn't hard at all and the kids love seeing their artwork on display.

What do you think?
Have a fabulous day my friends.

Friday Funnies! Photo Tips!

 Helloooo all my sweet friends!
Did you have a good week?
Do you need a laugh?
Do you have one to share?
Are you bored already?

Well if you have a family friendly funny to share then by all means link it up below.
If you don't, then just sit back grab yourself a cup of sunthin' and get your giggles here.

Today I am going to share some very important photo taking tips for when you're IN the picture.
I would have loved to have blessed you with actual photos of the what not to do's but it would have taken me all day to put together. Besides, I'm not real sure I want "those" pictures displayed for all to see! You know what I mean?
I'm sure you'll get the idea and may have experienced some of these yourself.

How to never take a bad picture.

We all have them. The pictures we wish we could burn or take over. But today I'm going to give you some pointers that I have learned over the course of my life as a result of hundreds of bad pictures taken of myself.

And just because using bullets make me feel smarter, I'm going to use them here.
  • First, if there is a camera present you have to have your guard up at all times. Here is where you have to use the eyes in the back of your head. Be Alert!
  • NEVER eat while in the presence of a camera. Chewing food pictures look horrible! Trust me on this one.
  • Having a birthday? Skip the blowing out of the candles picture. Go for the before and the after, but by no means let anyone take a picture of you while blowing. Uh, uh! Don't!
  • Never blink! You don't want to look like you've been out drinking all night with a mid blink picture or that you're sleeping with a full closed lid picture. It's just bad!
  • Avoid the "fat arm"! This is when your arm is pressed up against your body and makes your arm look fat. Always have hand on hip at a 45 degree angle to avoid this. This is for pictures that are standing and posed.
  • To lose 10lbs instantly, don't take full front pictures. Stand with your upper body just slightly turned to the right or left. Oh, it works!
  • Ladies, NEVER and I mean NEVER hold your arm straight out from your body unless you have some seriously tight triceps. Gravity is not your friend here!
  •
Well there you have it. I hope you have found some new tips on having a decent picture taken of you. Because if you are like me, you have WAY to many bad pictures and not enough good ones.
Better yet, be the one with the camera!
Feel free to share your own tips that you might have that aren't listed here.
        Happy Friday my Friends

The Maiden Voyage Camping Trip Part 2 "The Learning Part"

Well yesterday's post gave you some highlights of our short and sweet camping trip. Short because we just wanted a trial run close to home to see how things go. And sweet, because no one got hurt. LOL!

But we did learn some things in the few days we were in the ol' RV.
I'm going to share them with you and I'm going to use bullets because you know I think they're cool!

          • When you're 6 foot tall and have long hair, a camper shower can and is very difficult to get said hair "really" clean. Wet yes. Clean, not so much! LOL
          • Always bring more garbage bags than you think you'll need.
          • Bring a broom to sweep the constant flow of sand from the floor.
          • An RV bed isn't very comfortable or long enough when you're 6 foot tall.
          • Bring rain gear. Especially when it's raining when you leave to go to the site.
          • Don't forget your husbands coffee mug.
          • Don't leave shrimp out in a bait bucket in the water over night because the raccoons will eat every last one.
          • Make sure you fill the propane tank up BEFORE your camping trip because the guy at the store may be by himself and have to constantly run back and forth to the store to help everyone coming to get gas and you may be sitting there for 45 mins. waiting to get it filled!
          • When the lights for the Gray water are all lit up, empty it immediately because the shower stall just might fill full of that water and you (me) might end up cleaning it afterwards.
          • Roll the awning up before you go to bed so you're (my husband) not rolling it up in a windy rain storm at 1:54 am in ankle deep water.
          • Bring more snacks, because for some reason you want to eat a lot more when you're not at home.
          • Don't let your kids "pack" their own things.
          • Watching your husband empty the Black Water tank is funny. It just is. LOL!
          • The wind will surely blow out your pilot light for your water heater and someone (me) will end up taking a cold shower.

I'm sure some of you avid RVers are laughing at me right now. But this is exactly why we didn't go far and didn't go long! LOL!
Oh to have had a camera on us the whole time would have been quite comical.

Have a wonderful day my friends.
Be sure to come back tomorrow for Friday Funnies. You won't want to miss some VERY important photo tips I'll be giving.
          HUGS!

Camping Trip Maiden Voyage Part 1 "The Fun Part!"

We'll we're back. It seemed to go by quickly. Probably because it was a pretty quick trip. We wanted to stay pretty close as it was our first trip in the RV so we went to a park down south called Long Point Park. It's right on the river and had large spacious sites.
We learned quite a few things about RVing, but that will be tomorrows post.
I'll just give you some highlights of our trip through pictures. Cause everyone likes pictures better than a lot of wordiness!

Here's my hubby holding our site number tag to put on our RV! Ain't he cute?

          Site #57 was sweet!

Hubby getting right to work setting up the poles to fish!

And the boys quickly learning the ropes!

We had a stalker, trying to see if we caught anything.
Sorry Mr. Stork. Nothing for you.

My husband has this neat skim net that he dredges along the river bottom, and it ends up catching a whole lot of things. Including these little sea horses. Among those he caught crabs, needlefish, baby flounder, pinfish, and a whole mess of shrimp (that the racoons ate that night out of the bate bucket). It was so cool for the kids to get to touch all those things. Yes, we put them all back. We'll minus the shrimp!

Our first night in the camper. Don't they all look cozy?

The next day we decided to tour the island near the campsite.
Here we are making our way over the bridge to the 8 acre island.

This looked like a pretty sweet spot for a picture.

And of course I had to take pictures of the kids standing under a pine tree with the water in the background.

Here we are back at the campsite, chillin'!

And being silly! I know, big shocker!

My daughter decided that she would try out our 4 year olds fishing pole.
She quickly realized why it's not made for a big person. She cast it with a wee bit too much strength and it broke in half and went flying into the water. I got a picture of her retrieving the top half. I wish I could have gotten it on video.

I like this picture because if you look really closely you can see a dolphin in the water. They were all over the place, along with sting rays and mullet.

We took tons of pictures but I know you have things to do so I'll keep it at this.
We had a good time and it was nice to get away for a couple of days.

Be sure to come back tomorrow when I share all the things we learned during our first RV trip.
Mmmm hmmm! Trust me, we did some learnin'!

Have a fabulous day my friends.

          I'll Be Back!

Yes folks, we are going on our maiden voyage camping trip. We were blessed with this baby a few months ago and we finally have her ready to go.

So we are taking a local trip to break her in. Don't miss me to bad. In fact take this opportunity to look around the ol' blog and check out some archives. You never know what you might find.

          HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

          Kim

          Beauty and the Beast

This my friends is an uncropped, untouched up, ACTUAL photo of my washer and dryer. Oh yeah! It is.

To the right is Ms. Sweetie Pie, our washer. I'm not sure if she needs me to even put the clothes in for her. I just do that because I like to be helpful. Yes, my friends, we've finally arrived on this one. We sufficed with the least expensive models for years. We went through 2 or 3 in our marriage. They left their mark on our lives and rust stains on our shirts, but in the end they left us empty handed and disappointed.
But I expect big things from  Ms.Sweetie Pie. We've had her for about 2 years now and I'm hoping she out lives us and will some day wash the grand kids clothes. I aim high!

Now let me draw your attention to the dryer on the left. You see it?
You sure? Cause it's trying really hard to blend with the girl next to it. I think it's a little jealous.
You see the nice yellow efficiency sticker on the washer? Yeah.....Mr. Die Hard doesn't have a sticker. I'm pretty sure it's the fact that it's over 25 years old and probably isn't the most "efficient" dryer now a days. But in the last 14 years we've owned it (It was my grandmother's before us!) it has only died once. And my hubby being my hubby, fixed it.
In fact when the Lowe's guy came to deliver and install our new washer. He looked at the dryer and seriously asked if it still worked? LOL! I assured him it did or it wouldn't be there. I think he went and bought a Kenmore that night. LOL!

Moral of this story? I honestly couldn't tell you. I for some reason just thought you might like to hear about my washer and dryer. You did, didn't you?
          What's your oldest appliance?

Have a fabulous weekend my friends!
