Hello everyone! Welcome to another edition of Show and Tell Saturdays, hosted by yours truly. This weeks theme is show and telling about something you collect, whether it be a big or small collection. I can't say that I collect much. And I really didn't think you'd want pictures of the dust I've been collecting all over the house so I came up with something else. My small salt and pepper collection. Now I know that some people "really" collect these and they can be worth some money. No, I buy things for the change of seasons so my table looks cute! LOL. I like useful collective things.
I have 4 1/2 sets of of salt and pepper shakers. Why the half you ask? Well my precious daughter dropped the pepper shaker of one of the sets. Let's see if you can tell which one! LOL.
If you can't, I'm going to be deeply concerned about you. Hee! Hee!
So here is my small but useful collection of shakers!Don't you just love the flip flop set? I got those at a garage sale for .50 cents.

Show and Tell Saturdays- Handmade Goodies

Since I've already shown off my quilts, my drawings and my handbags, I was wondering what I was going to show today. Then I came across an old picture of a cake I made and I went hunting for more. I used to love decorating cakes back when I had more time on my hands. These are just a few and they are by no means great but they were loved by the people that got them. I hope you enjoy. If you ever need party theme ideas, I'm your gal!


This first one was a soccer cake I made for my daughter years ago when she played.

This one is probably one of my favorites. It was for a Luau Theme party. It's an island and the inhabitants are Teddy Grahams and I used Gummi Savers for the floats and chewing gum for beach blankets. It was so fun to make!!Well that's all I could scrounge up. Now a days all the kids ask for is my yummy peanut butter pie for their birthdays. I'm not complaining. LOL. My favorite cake is a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. OH IT'S THE BEST!

Show and Tell Saturdays- Beloved Pet

This weeks topic was picked by JenT over at Many Blessings Equals Busy Life.
It's time to show and tell about your favorite pet or if you never had a pet one that you would have liked to have.

Okay it was a late night and I'm just getting started, which for those of you who know me know that this is really really late for me. I also don't have much time so this is going to be the shorter and sweet version. LOL.
Personally after having 2 dogs for over 10 years (We are now down to one. Long story.) my favorite pet has become anything that lives outside. The squirrels in our yard perform daily and I don't have to vacuum after them. The mourning doves sing a PLEASANT tune every morning right outside our window.(And it sounds nothing like the sound of a dog licking through our terrazzo floor!) The lizards don't eat much and are very quiet. The butterflies are pretty to look at and help pollinate my flowers. Yes these are my favorite pets. No shedding, feeding, picking up poopy, spending $300.00 you don't have to get a tooth pulled, being sad when they kick it! You know what I mean?
But for show and tell sake I'll show you a picture of my actual dog Murphy. She is a lab mix and has been a wonderful dog. I'm just tired of cleaning up after her. LOL. This is what she looked like this morning. Well this is what she looks like pretty much every morning. She's about 13 years old now and we will be sad when she goes but no we aren't going to get another one to replace her. I have kids, that's ALL I need! LOL.
Isn't she cute? We do love her and she's been great as far as dogs go!

Show and Tell Saturdays- Favorite Vacation

My sweet friend Amanda picked this weeks theme. It's our favorite vacation. We might be able to plan our next vacation based on where everyone has been.

My favorite vacation was actually way back and I'll warn you now the pictures were scanned in because they were way before digital.
This was Brad and I's very first vacation together. Back before all the kids! Not to say we haven't had some great vacations with the kids but this one stands out as one of the best times of my life. I'll try to keep it short as not to bore you to death because I know it just ain't as fun for you to hear about how much fun I had! LOL.
Our Vacation started out at Chimney Rock, North Carolina!
Here we are at the top. We were putting great stock into the fact that whoever put that fence up knew what they were doing because we were totally leaning there.

They had really cool caverns to walk through and beautiful water falls to play in. Here's me inside one of the small caverns. Ah youth! Here's an actual picture of Chimney Rock. The view was spectacular!
I could fill this page with beautiful pictures but then I'd be here all day and so would you. From the North Carolina mountains we made our way down to sea level in the Florida Keys. Here's me ready to go! Not sure what I was doing. This was our mode of transportation! We hunted for lobster all night long in that thing (the boat not the 4Runner). It was so much fun. What you do is shine a big light into the water and their eyes would glow and then you'd sneak up and get them with a lobster net. I was actually spotting shrimp's eyes. Here's the famous entrance. If you look really hard there is a little white spec in the lower right hand corner. That's Me!! Uh, please excuse the immodestly dressed young lady in the picture below but she was holding some of our lobsters. Okay fine yes, that's me and I was not yet convicted of my apparel as you can see. But it was the KEYS!! LOL. And grilled lobster tails for dinner! YUMMO! Here's my sweetie pie on one of our dives! I want to know why he can look all sexy underwater and then there's......................... ME! There is so nothing hot about this picture but I had to show it too you because it was part of the experience! LOL. Yes I even had pink mask, snorkel and fins! One of just hundreds of beautiful fish you see there. And don't forget the beautiful sunsets! This picture doesn't even do it justice! We did all of this in just a week and had a blast. There was just tons to do in each place that you never have to worried about being bored. What was your favorite vacation? Show and Tell Saturdays- Inspiring Book

I am really looking forward to this Show and Tell because it's all about sharing a book that has inspired you as a person. I'm always on the lookout for a good read and can't wait to see what you all came up with. So go post about your book and then come back and link up with Mr. Linky below this post.

It was hard narrowing it down to just one book but when I thought about it this book was the first one to pop in my head. I know I've probably mentioned it a while back but it's good enough to mention again.
Passionate Housewives Desperate for GodThis book inspired me to embrace my roll as a wife, mother and keeper of my home. She touched on all the doubts that I ever had about my roll and was encouraging all through the book. It is an easy read and I never once got bored with it or found it irrelevant.
I am actually reading it again because I want to absorb more from it.
If you've read the book tell us what you liked or disliked about it in the comments area. I personally don't have anything negative to say about it, but not everyone is like me and opinions differ.

I know some of you were thinking I was probably going to post about the book I got from the Library the other day! LOL. But I thought I'd dig a bit deeper today! Lucky for you, huh?

Show and Tell Saturdays- Kitchen Gadget

Welcome to Show and Tell Saturdays. This is where you get to show and tell about whatever the theme is for the week and then come back here and link up your post. Today's theme is all about your favorite kitchen gadget. When Melissa picked this one I quickly thought of my favorite gadget and then another and then another. So I didn't end up picking just one. I had to pick the ones that I LOVE to use in my kitchen and wouldn't want to do without.

The first gadget is my Vita-Mix Machine. This thing slices and dices,purees and chops and will also balance your checkbook. But wait there's more, act now and get a free set of Ginsu Knives! LOL. Okay sorry I got carried away. I think I've seen one to many Infomercials. But it is a WONDERFUL tool in my kitchen. I linked up the website in case you ever wanted to check out what it can do. I also got the dry blender container to grind wheat with. That comes in handy when making your own bread. I admit it is an investment but well worth the money.

My next gadget is my Kitchen Aid Mixer. This thing kneads dough, whips up cream and meringue, cookie and cake batters are no match for this baby. And if we ever come into some money we can get the attachments for this as well. My parents actually got this for me for Christmas 2 years ago and I LOVE it. Again I linked to the website so you can check out the features. They purchased this one at Sam's Club so it was waaaaaaay cheaper than buying online.

Okay this next thing, I absolutely love making burgers on. They come out so juicy. It's the George Foreman Grill. I know I know but I really do love it. I cook my homemade sausage patties on here and my turkey burgers and they always come out perfect. Fast and easy. Just what I like.

These next two things are pretty indispensable at our home. First is my coffee maker and the second is our handy dandy coffee grinder. I had to add them as they are used just about every day. Well the coffee maker is used every day!! Oh yeah!! Woo Hoo!!

This almost feels like a Works for Me Wednesday post! LOL. Are you still with me or did I loose you at the Vita-Mix. I love to hear about what kitchen gadgets people "really" use. Because I know of some gadgets that just sit in a cupboard somewhere and never see the light of day. Well I'm here to tell you that these fellas see daylight ALL THE TIME!!
I've been known to compare my kitchen to a man's workshop. You gotta have the right tools to do the job. Don't you agree? My husband could totally relate to that and I think shortly after that I got my Vita-Mix. LOL. He was tired of me blowing out cheap "tools"!!

Show and Tell Saturday- Favorite Shoes

Brenda over at The Ties That Bind Us picked this weeks theme of favorite shoes.
This was an easy one for me. Living within walking distance to the beach makes this choice a no brainer. My favorite shoes would be my flip flops. I really don't even have a lot of shoes. If I can get away with wearing my flip flops with a dress (which I've been known to do) I will. That's one of the benefits of living over here as well. It's pretty laid back. I know for a lot of women shoes are a big thing and my sad collection of shoes would make you laugh. Let me ask you this. Did anyone elses feet grow after each pregnancy besides mine? I started out a size 9 and now I'm a size 10 1/2. Let me just tell you now, shoes stop getting cute at size 10. I think that's why my shoe collection is pretty non existent. LOL. But that's besides the point. I know you are on the edge of your seat wanting to see my favorite shoes so here you go. My flip flops and all their wonder!

I buy all my flip flops at Sam's Club. They have the best and at a great price.

Show and Tell Saturdays- Favorite Gift from Hubby

Hello everyone. Welcome to the 3rd week of Show and Tell Saturdays. This weeks theme is our favorite gift from our husband. Well one of them at least. Do you have one that just stands out above the rest?
The thing I chose brought tears to my eyes when I opened it Christmas morning about 5 years ago. It's a Willow Tree Figurine of a man and woman dancing. (Well at least that's how we look when we're dancing. I always put my hand on his heart with his hand over mine.) This is special to me because there are so many moments I steal with my husband in our kitchen. I will usually start humming a tune and we will break into a nice little slow dance. Most of the time it's just he and I but sometimes we are slow dancing in the midst of kids and dogs running around our feet. He knows that sometimes I just "need" these little moments with him and he takes the time to stop and just dance with me. So for him to remember that and know how important it is to me, makes me feel special. So here it is, one of many favorite gifts from my hubbalicious! (with a bonus picture of us together on the beach.)

Show and Tell Saturdays- Cups

Welcome to our second week of Show and Tell Saturdays. My dear friend Lisa from Stop and Smell the Chocolates has picked this weeks theme. It's Show and Tell your favorite tea cup or coffee cup or whatever your favorite cup is. Come tell us about this special cup you have. You may not even drink out of it it's so special. I couldn't choose just one cup because out of these 4 cups each one's use is "special".
I'll start with my coffee cup.
This cup holds no real sentimental value. To be honest the only reason I use it is because it's bigger than most cups! LOL! Hey I'm just being honest. Here's a picture of it. I guess I could have taken a picture of the fish on the mug. Oh well! Moving on to cup #2.

This next one is the newest addition to my "cup" collection. Not that I purposely collect cups but I seem to have an over abundance of them. I love tea and just recently started drinking loose tea. So for Christmas my wonderful husband got me this beautiful tea cup with the fitting lid on top. This one is special because my hubby picked it out himself. Isn't it pretty?

This next one is one that I use when I'm using regular tea bags. But first let me give you some history on me really quick. Back in High School, I LOVED Garfield. I read the comics every Sunday. I had Garfield school folders,pencils, figurines, posters, book covers, you name it I had it. So when I found this in a local thrift store, I about fell over. It was perfect.

I love what the back says.
Last but not least on those cold wintery days, (you know the 2 that we have each year here in Florida,) I have my hot cocoa mug. This baby is big and holds a lot of hot cocoa. Enough room so you can float your share of mini marshmallows on top without worry of spillage. Plus it has a great snowman on it and I LOVE snowmen as well. Don't you love it? Also another thrift store find! Don't you just love the thrift store?
So there you have it. All of my (well okay not all) but most of my very "special" cups.

Show and Tell Saturdays - Antiques

Welcome everyone to the first edition of Show and Tell Saturdays. Here's how it works. Each week will be a different theme for you to take a picture of something within that theme and tell the story behind it or maybe just why you like it. I will then pick one of you to pick a theme for the next week and will post what that is at the top of my blog the next day and leave it up for a few days.This weeks theme is antiques.

I don't have a lot of antiques because I haven't really inherited anything, being one of 50 or so grand kids and great grand kids and great great grand kids and I haven't been married long enough to have anything that long but I somehow managed to get this piece from my grandmother. I had vaguely remembered it as a child in my grandmother's house in Maine, so I went and asked my Mom about it last night. (Oh the convenience of having them in the backyard. In a cottage that is.) She said that she remembered it always being there in the house and in the middle of it would be a stack of National Geographic Magazines and the side holders would be filled with The Saturday Evening Post. It sat at the end of the couch near the piano and housed a little lamp. My Mom is guessing that this is over 75 years old and I am so tickled to have this piece in my house. It now houses Better Homes and Garden Magazines, my game board, an ugly lamp, old memories and now many new ones. I don't know anything about the maker or brand of furniture that it is, but it is a treasure to me. I love this piece of furniture.
So here is a picture of my Grandmother's magazine holder. I say that like she's going to be coming back for it. LOL. I guess I can start calling it mine now huh? Nah! It'll always be Mamie's. I'm just the new caretaker.

I truly believe that a picture can be worth a thousand words so I can't wait to hear about yours.
