Dare I do another weekly recap?

Let’s see, what went on this week.
My husband has been working diligently on this rocking chair that we picked up for $25.00 on Craigslist. He completely took it apart and sanded, stained it and varnished it. It came out beautiful!

On Monday my daughter got her wisdom teeth taken out. This is her just getting back and still feeling a bit groggy. Yes, I had her permission to post this as long as I posted her picture as of today showing that she’s improving greatly.

We’ve been having fun watching our ants make tunnels. This is after having it about 2 weeks. It’s pretty cool. I blogged about it on my homeschool blog if you are interested.

I’ve been busy making homemade Christmas decorations for the small white tree I bought for, yes, my craft room. Seriously people, I have a problem and it involves the colors red and white and the most wonderful day of the year, Christmas! LOL!

And last but not least, my daughter decided to actually clean her hairbrush. It actually brought me many laughs as I would pick it up and wonder how she still has a head full of hair on her head. And yes, she took pictures of her hairbrush so she could blog about it. LOL! Oh I’m so rubbing off on her. HA!

So there you have it. Another exciting week at the Homestead!
What did you do this week?

Friday Funnies!

friday funnies
Happy Friday Everyone!
It’s time for some side splitting, coffee spitting fun today!
If you want to play along go on and post your family friendly funny and then link it up below.
It can be a video, joke, story, picture etc.

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know!

Bubba was bragging to his boss one day.  "You know, I know everyone there is to know.  Just name someone, anyone, and I know them."

Tired of his boasting, his boss called his bluff.  "Ok, Bubba, how about Tom Cruise?"  "Sure, yes, Tom and I are old friends, and I can prove it."

So Bubba and his boss fly out to Hollywood and knock on Tom Cruise's door.  Sure enough, Tom Cruise shouts, "Bubba!  Great to see you!  You and your friend come right in and join me for lunch!"  Although impressed, Bubba's boss is still skeptical.  After they leave Cruise's house, he tells Bubba that he thinks Bubba's knowing Cruise was just lucky.

"No, no, just name anyone else," Bubba says. "The President of the United States," his boss quickly retorts.  "Yes," Bubba says.  "I know him.  Let's fly out to Washington."  And off they go. At the White House, The President spots Bubba on the tour and motions him and his boss over, saying, "Bubba, what a surprise.  I was just on my way to a meeting, but you and your friend come on in and share a cup of coffee first and catch up."

Well, the boss is very shaken by now, but still not totally convinced.  After they leave the White House grounds, he expresses his doubts to Bubba, who again implores him to name anyone else.

"The Pope," his boss replies.  "Sure!" says Bubba.  "I've known the Pope a long time."  So off they fly to Rome.  Bubba and his boss are assembled with the masses in Vatican Square when Bubba says, "This will never work.  I can't catch the Pope's eye among all these people.  Tell you what.  I know all the guards, so let me just go upstairs and I'll come out on the balcony with the Pope."  Bubba disappears into the crowd headed toward the Vatican.  Sure enough, half an hour later, Bubba emerges with the Pope on the balcony.

By the time Bubba returns, he finds that his boss has had a heart attack and is surrounded by paramedics.  Working his way to his boss' side, Bubba asks him, "What happened?"  His boss looks up and says, "I was doing fine until you and the Pope came out on the balcony and the man next to me said, "Who's that on the balcony with Bubba?"

Happy Friday my friends!

Things Your Momma Probably Didn’t Tell You!

When I was a kid on through to teenagerdom (yes, I just made that word up) , I didn’t pay much attention to what my Mom did. The house was clean, there was food on the table, I had clean clothes to wear.
Life was good.
Fast forward to marriage and children.
What? The food doesn’t magically appear in the fridge and then make it’s way fully cooked and prepared to the table?
What? The house isn’t self cleaning?
What? The laundry fairy isn’t a real person?

So here are some things I’ve learned since I’ve been married and had children.
2f303146eb4ebe6e1. You’re going to wish you had a clone.
2. You are going to cook a lot.
3.  You’re going to do mountain loads of laundry 3-4 times a week.
4.  You’re going to vacuum, and then look at the floor 2 days later and say,”But I JUST vacuumed.” a lot.
5. You’re going to grocery shop, a lot. u11671416
6.  You’re going to say, “No.” “Shhhh.” and “ Stop that.” a lot.
7.  You’re going to buy toilet paper, a lot.
8.  You’re going to wonder how much toilet paper your kids are actually using.
9. You’re goicc5add963cbb964cng to wipe your fair share of bottoms.
10. You’re going to learn that sleep is now a luxury you can’t afford.
11.. You’re going to learn to drink coffee in your early 30’s to make up for the sleep deficit.
12. You’re going to have this verse run through your head throughout the day some days.
“Philippians 2:14  Do all things without complaining and disputing.”

On the upside.
1.  You’re going to get a lot of hugs.3884-peanut-butter-bonbons-1_101x109
2. You’re going to get “I love you Mom”, said to you a lot.
3.  You’re going to get more kisses than you ever imagined.
4.  You’re going to have plenty of reasons to eat chocolate.
Well there’s my list.

What have you learned since you’ve been married that your Momma didn’t tell you (or you just didn’t listen)?
Have a fabulous day my friends!

The Homestead Dog!

This is our dog Murphy. She’s 14 almost 15 years old now. We’ve had her for about 12 years. She was spoiled rotten when we got her and had plenty of bad habits, none of which we broke her from. I guess you can’t stop an old dog from doing old tricks. She’s having her range of problems that comes with age, but one thing she still does amazes people to this day.
It’s how she lays. This is how she lays a lot of the time. We’ve gotten used to it and don’t really think about it but when people come over they can’t imagine how it’s comfortable for her. LOL!
100_7451
How about a bird’s eye view?
100_7450
A worm’s eye view?

So here’s what I’m wondering. Do any of your dogs lay like this and if so what breed are they?
Have a fabulous day my friends.

Weekly Recap For Mom!

My Mom reads my blog and has recently told me that I haven’t written anything. LOL! Then she clarified that I haven’t written anything that she’s interested in.
*Thanks Mom*
She wants to see what we are doing as a family. And I don’t blame her. When you’re a Mom and a Nana that lives 1500 miles away, you want to see as much as you can. Don’t feel to bad for her though, my son gives her a VERY detailed update every few days. LOL!
So here we go!
My hubby walked over to the beach early one morning and caught these Spanish Mackerel. We ate them for lunch that day. YUM!

Tuesday, I had a little girl day with my BFF Kathy and we made these Fall cookies. Can you guess one of the ones I made? LOL!
10-20-10 08310-20-10 074
One evening we went over to the beach to just goof off. The boys had fun playing in the water and my daughter had fun taking pictures of everything.

My 8 year old son finally managed to catch his first opossum. Yeah, we get bored here in the South. LOL!  Don’t worry, we let him go without a scratch. This was a juvenile. He was actually quite cute.

My husband has been gracious enough to let me have a whole room designated for my craft/homeschool room, but this filing cabinet was just hogging to much space in there so I offered to let him move it into our bed room. (I know, not the best place for it but at least there’s room in there.) My youngest helped him a bunch. Ha!

Well there you have it.  Our weekly recap!
Have a fabulous Sunday. I’m off to church!

Friday Funnies! No One Is Available!

friday funnies
It’s time for the middle to get a jiggle.
Yes, it’s Friday Funnies time.
If you have a family friendly funny to share, please link it up at the end of this post.
It can be a funny joke, video, story, etc.

Surprisingly enough, nothing super duper funny happened at the house this week so I found a funny joke for ya.
Enjoy!
No One Is Available!
George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi,  was going to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the shed. George opened the door to go turn off the light but saw there were people in the shed in the process of stealing things.
He immediately phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and George said no and explained the situation. Then they explained that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be there when available.
George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.
"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them all."
Then he hung up. Within five minutes three squad cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up. Of course, the police caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"
George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"
HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!

Apple Eating 101

I guess I never really realized that my son had never eaten an apple whole.  See I like my apples cut up, they’re easier to eat. But my daughter likes to eat hers, not cut up. So the other day my son wanted an apple and my daughter washes it and hands it to him. As he stood there staring at it, it never occurred to her that he’s never actually eaten an apple like that. So what does she do? Does she cut  the apple up for him? NO!  She grabs her camera. The rest is digital history!

Same Lamp, Two Different Looks!

100_7499

I bought two of these lamp bases on clearance at Wal-Mart about a month ago.  They were cute but didn’t go with my decor.

100_7494
I had bought 3 of these small lamp shades at a garage sale for about 5 cents a piece about 6 months ago.

Needless to say, they didn’t match each other very well.

First I had to find out where they were going to go. Once I figure that out, all it took was a little paint and some trim to change them up a little.

The first lamp sits on my kitchen counter. I painted it chocolate brown to go with my coffee/chocolate kitchen theme and then I added some really pretty trim to the bottom of the shade and painted the gold trip up top, brown, until I get some brown ribbon or something else.
 100_7531
I think it came out cute. BUT..the second one is my FAVORITE.100_7534

Same lamp and shade but this time this lamp was going in my craft room and even though you haven’t seen my whole craft room, yet. I’ll tell you that my love of red and white is dominant. Thus, the reason this lamp is the color it is.
100_7496

I took my 5 cent lamp shade, added some cute red pom pom trim to the bottom and some red rick rack to the top.  I painted the base red and added some white rick rack to the bottom.
100_7508

Voila’!
Cute right?
Guess what?
Tomorrow is finally my 800th post and you know what that means right?
It’s giveaway time!! Be sure to come back tomorrow to see what I’ve got going on!
