If You Give a Girl a Vase…..

She will surely feel the need to go get flowers for it immediately and post-pone her trip with her BFF to Sam’s. She will have no trouble convincing her BFF of this plan as this will allow her to help pick out the flowers for said vase.  They will then look at the clock and realize it would be wrong not to go out of their way to find a Starbucks to get a cup of java to enjoy while at Sam’s, only to drink it all before they get there. While at Sam’s they will be forced to sample 4 different types of fudge and walk away with the Chocolate Pecan Fudge and a sugar high.

Yup, that’s pretty much what happened the other day. Kathy knows I’m redoing our room in a garden theme so when she saw this vase, she knew I’d love it. And she was right.

Isn’t it just the cutest?

IMG_1388

Meanwhile my grandmother’s old watering can was begging for a little attention so I got some new flowers for it too. I really like how it turned out.

IMG_1390

I’m really liking the way our room is turning out. It’s a happy place. My husband has been so cool about it. He’s basically letting me do whatever I want in there. Yay, me!

I’m hoping to get our old furniture painted this week and then I’ll be ready for the big reveal.

Have a FABULOUS day my friends.

Hallmark Threw Up in My Bathroom!

No I don’t have any kids or a dog named Hallmark but if I did would you have clicked to see the throw up in my bathroom? Just wondering? LOL!

IMG_1374

As January rushes by like a freight train, I realized that one of my favorite days is coming up. Valentines Day. So yesterday I found my stash of Valentinesy things and obviously only had enough time to strew it all over my bathroom counter.

Why was I in my bathroom in the first place? Well if you have younger children you’ll understand. See if I would have brought this all out into the living/dining area, the kids would have gotten ALL excited and would have wanted to “help”. I wasn’t ready for “help”. I was just trying to assess the situation and see what I’ve got to work with. NOW do you understand why it’s all in my bathroom? I did however have to explain to my hubby that I wasn’t losing my seasonal decorating mind and that it was just a temporary location.

Since we’re on the subject, do you decorate your bathroom for special holidays or do you stick to one room?

Did you notice the Hershey’s Kisses anywhere? I’m thinking those might be staying in the bathroom! That’s all the decorating I need. HA!

Have a beautiful day my friends!

A Couple of Fun Finds!

My BFF Kathy and I went to a couple of thrift stores and Old Time Pottery the other day and as we were walking around Old Time Pottery she spotted this and she was like “You’re so going to want this when you see it!” And when I saw it I was like, “Well, Duh! It basically has my name written all over it!” See I really really like the color combo of red and white. So much so that my craft room revolves around it. Not to mention I also love polks dots in those very same colors. So when this was sitting there all by itself, looking kinda lonely, I knew I had to make it mine.

IMG_1367

Now I would have gotten this because I liked it just the way it is but when I looked inside I realized just how ME it really was.

IMG_1368

Isn’t that great? By the way, I win  A LOT! Hee! Hee!

We also perused some thrift stores and that’s where I found this antique lamp that is just PERFECT for my bedroom makeover. And I didn’t think $8.00 was to much for such a unique lamp. I’m going to be getting a new lamp shade as I’m pretty sure this one is not original to the lamp and it really doesn’t look that great with it. BUT it will do for now.

IMG_1371

I love the detail on the base.

IMG_1373

I’m all about buying second hand or repurposing what you’ve got. I move things around my home from one room to the other or sand and paint something that already exist in the house to go with what I’m trying to accomplish. It’s all about saving the bucks!

What second hand stuff have you found? or What have you repurposed lately in your home? I’d love to know!

Have a FABULOUS day my sweet friends.

Hutch #5 and Room Color Reveal!

Yes, I got another hutch. But in my defense this is only my 4th. One is in my daughter’s room. But when I saw this on Craigslist I knew I had to have it. It had the perfect gardeny cottagey feel I was going for in our bedroom. When I got it home I gave it a good sanding, slapped some white paint on it and distressed it to give it that well worn look. (Which you can’t tell it has in this picture!)

Do you like it?

IMG_1360

Do you see the yellow wall in the background? That’s our new bedroom color and I LOVE it!

Here is the old mauvish color in contrast to the new lighter and brighter yellow color.

IMG_1343

Our bedroom gets nothing but indirect lighting so we needed a color that would help brighten up the room and this yellow did the job. I’m in the process of redoing our current bedroom furniture so the BIG reveal will have to wait.

Meanwhile you all remember my daughter’s orange walls right?

IMG_1299

Well here are her new and greatly improved bedroom walls!

IMG_3218 IMG_3224

IMG_3221

Isn’t it beautiful? I just love it. It’s so pretty and fun. We are in the process of getting her a different bed and hanging her curtains. She totally loves it.

Up next? The boys room, then the kitchen, then the office/craft room, our bathroom, the kids bathroom and possibly the dining room. OY!

I won’t be complaining about being bored for a VERY long time.

Have a fabulous day my friends!

Friday Funnies! Little House Laughs!

friday funnies

Happy Friday!

Time is flying by these days but I hope you take a little time to enjoy some funnies and even share one of your own. It can be a funny story, video, picture, etc. Just make it family friendly.

I’m sure most of my reading audience grew up watching Little House on the Prairie, right? It was a pretty dramatic show. Well I happened upon some Little House Bloopers and thought you all would enjoy them like I did. I always like seeing the mishaps on a show like that.

ENJOY!

Why I Love Blogland! Let Me Count the Ways!

ilovemycomputer

Seriously, many a times over the past few years I have presented a problem and you, my faithful blogging friends, have given me many many ideas and solutions. You rock!

Yesterday I presented yet another problem of mine and I got so many helpful suggestions that I’ve actually come up with a system that might work for me. I’m going to put it into action starting this weekend and do it for a week and then I’ll blog about my results and how it worked for me. Trust me it’ll only take a week for me to know whether it’s something I’ll stick to or not.

Meanwhile, don’t forget about Friday Funnies tomorrow. Let’s spread some funny love!

BIG HUGS TO YOU MY FRIENDS!

I’m Such a Liar!

It’s time for a dose of reality!

Does anyone else have peeves with themselves? You know, the little (or big) things that irritate you about yourself.

I do.

Two and a half years ago I wrote this post about procrastination. It was all about how I was going to turn over a new leaf and stop putting things off and blah blah blah. Obviously that leaf was a lot harder to turn than I had expected.

This has been a very busy time in our lives. Moving is hard. There is still so much left to do here and that’s above and beyond the “normal” every day things that need to be done. It seems that by the time I get all the everyday things done it doesn’t leave much room for the above and beyond things associated with the move.

So here is my question to you. In your cyber travels have you come across any helpful plans or systems or advice in getting it done? Something doable. As much as I’d like to be a list maker, I’m not. I try, but then I never look at it again. I need something that works for me but I’m not sure what that is yet. LOL!

Meanwhile in another part of the home, the painting jobs are coming along. We actually started painting our room. But now our bedroom furniture looks funky against the new color. LOL! So guess what I’ll be doing “someday”? Yup, painting our bedroom furniture. Actually I’ve been wanting to do it for some time but now I have a valid excuse because it really does look bad with the new color.

Our daughter’s walls look FABULOUS. LOVE LOVE the new color. Don’t worry pictures will come.

I’m going to go be productive. I think, I don’t know, probably not. LOL! I’m not making any promises.

HUGS!

Let the Painting Party Begin!

My hubby is off for the next 2 days so we decided that we are going to start doing some painting. Even if we only get 2 rooms done, it’ll be progress. And I like progress. It makes me happy. I like being happy.

When deciding which room to paint first my selfish side immediately raised it’s  anxious hand and shouted “OUR ROOM!! OOOoooh! Ooooh! Do our room first!”  But once I calmed down and thought rationally I finally decided that our daughter’s room “needed” to be painted first. Here’s why.

It’s ORANGE!  And not just one color orange. No, three of her walls are sponge painted 3 different shades of orange. I don’t know how she’s sleeping at night to tell you the truth.

What makes things worse is that her room decor colors are pink, black and white. I don’t know about you but orange doesn’t even begin to go with that color palette. The orange needs to go!  The insanity needs to stop.

IMG_1294

Orange is no backdrop for a beautiful pink guitar! It’s wrong I tell you! Wrong!

What I wish is that her bedroom was still empty, but it’s not. It’s full of her stuff, but it’s okay, we’ll work it out.

So the next time you see her bedroom it will be a nice shade of…………

Friday Funnies!

Happy Friday!

I completely forgot what day it was until I woke up this morning. Then I realized that I hadn’t posted a Friday Funny! So sorry about the lateness. But better late than never right?
With that said, if you have a family friendly funny to share please feel free to link it up below. It can be a picture, story, video etc.

Let’s spread some funny today.

Warning, run-on sentence ahead!

Since I posted this week about our newly tilled garden, I thought it would be fun to show you all who think you just don’t have room to plant one, some handy space saving ideas for growing veggies and or flowers. AND you are recycling and saving the planet at the same time. BONUS!

Enjoy!

Can you picture about 10 of these hanging on your fence with pretty flowers in them? No really, can’t you? LOL!

Car broke down. No problem! Just add dirt!

And ever since the flat screen monitors came into our lives these things have gone to the waste side, but no more. I’d say these babies would make a great herb garden!

Well there you have it. No more excuses. Let’s get to plantin’!

Happy Friday Everyone!

How’s the House Going?

This has been a busy two months for us. Selling a house, buying a house, moving contents of house, vacation, Christmas, birthday’s and the list goes on.

There is so much I’ve wanted to blog about but I just haven’t had the time.

So here’s an update on the house.

This is what our garage looks like as of 5:25 am this morning.

IMG_1267

Isn’t it just lovely? The good news is that MOST of those are my husband’s. Good news for me but not so much him. Oh don’t worry I still have my fair share mixed in there but for the most part those are boxes that hold most of his workshop stuff and garage stuff from the other house. This home didn’t come with a workshop so that’s on “the list” of things to build. But until then, I’m afraid our poor vehicles will be staying the cold winter nights outside.

This is one of many gallons of paint still waiting to on on the walls.

IMG_1266

We have not had a chance to paint anything yet!  Which now with all our furniture in the rooms is going to be very challenging. That and 20 foot ceilings that we’ve never had to deal with before. Oy!

This is our computer.

IMG_1268

What’s the big idea with that, you ask? Well the fact is, it’s in our bedroom right now. I don’t want it in our bedroom. I want it in the room that we call our office, but our office doesn’t have a phone line in it and my hubby is having a hard time trying to figure out how to get a phone line in there because of the way the interior walls are built, because of their height. *Deep Breath Kim*

Did I mention that the “deep” cleaning that I wanted to do when we moved in never happened? No, well it didn’t and it’s still waiting to be done. Don’t get me wrong, things like the kitchen and bathrooms got done but the windows and floorboards and all the doors and floors still need a good deep cleaning on them.

But I’m not one to focus on the negative so let’s look at the bright side. The Lord has blessed us mightily with this home and we think it’s beautiful. There are no “major” problems with it. We are eating, drinking and sleeping in it in comfort and my family is happy.

So there you have it. Anyone up for coming over to paint and clean? I’ll make coffee! LOL!

HAVE A FABULOUS DAY MY FRIENDS!

I think his tiller’s sexy!

This is our backyard. Well half of it.

backyard

When we bought our new pad we were really excited about the prospects of having a garden in the ground. Living on the beach didn’t reap us very good results when it came to gardening (even container gardening).

This could have been the problem.

ourdirt

That’s sand. Sand is for making sand castles with, not growing veggies. Even though we tried adding fertilizer and all that jazz it still never did well for us.

So when we moved the first thing my hubby wanted to get is a tiller. A friend of his sold him an almost brand new one for half the price of one. My hubby got to tilling out a plot for our new garden, pronto.

“Hi, honey! You’re so HOT! ”  (Sorry! He distracts me!)

1-10-2011_005

Anyway, it’s approximately 900 square feet.

IMG_1249

This is what the soil looks like without us having done anything to it yet.

IMG_3002

My hubby said he almost cried when he started tilling and saw the nice dark soil.

We are very excited about our spring garden. I’ll keep you posted on it’s progress and what we end up planting.

Do you plant a garden and if so, what grows best for you?

HUGS!

Friday Funnies! On Second Thought….

But as always, I’m ready to end it with a bunch of giggles. So if you have a family friendly funny to share, please feel free to link up below. It can be a funny video, story, joke, etc.

Let’s spread some funny love!

You know the more I got to thinking about losing weight the more I’m realizing it could be hazardous to my health. You want proof? Oh I found you some proof!

Enjoy!

I See in Bokeh!

I love to take pictures but I really don’t know a lot about photography. But apparently there is a term called “bokeh” that is very popular. Here is the dictionary definition.

bokeh-a Japanese term for the subjective aesthetic quality of out-of-focus areas of a photographic image.

Here is an example. Courtesy of my daughter!

IMG_0406

My first thought was that this was just a word someone came up with to cover up the fact that they really didn’t know how to take a decent picture. But apparently it actually takes some talent to accomplish. What do I know?

I however can accomplish this effect without the need of an expensive camera. All I have to do is take out my contact lenses and Voila’!  Bokeh Baby! Whatever is close to me is clear but everything behind it is as blurry as it can be.

It used to bother me that my eyesight was bad but now I’m starting to think that it’s kind of cool as long as there is this neat word to define it. A new trend maybe? Well it’s better than being called blinder than a bat!

So the next time I go to my eye doctor I’m not going to say I can’t see well, I’m just going to tell him that I see in bokeh!

HUGS!

What is it about a new year?

There’s just something about starting fresh that puts a spring in your step and gives you a renewed sense of purpose. It’s either that or the fact that it’s going to get up to 78 today! It’s too early to tell.

Anyway I’m not going to attempt to look back at 2010 to try to figure out what I did or what happened. It’s just to hard on the brain. Instead I’ll tell you what I’m NOT planning on doing THIS year.

1. MOVING! (Please God no!)

2. Turn 40! Nope never again. It was to exhausting.

The End!

(I never did like exhaustive lists. LOL!)
