Summer Fun for the Girls!!

A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. So we did.

My BFF Kathy decided to have a cake decorating class yesterday. I knew my daughter would love to do it but I almost didn’t until Kathy practically begged me to do it. Okay she didn’t beg much.

It ended up being a blast. My friend Laura and I where the only “adults” so we ended up sitting by ourselves as this table.

IMG_2308

And my cake started out looking like this.

IMG_2309

I was ready to call it done and start eating it. I’m really not a cake decorator. My friend Laura and I decided that we like things that are ready to eat straight out of the oven. Cookies, cupcakes, brownies etc. Who has time to decorate? Sheesh! But to humor those around me, I decided to give it shot.

IMG_2310

THERE! All done! What? I was going for a medieval theme. LOL!

Okay fine. It went something like this.

I got my fondant. Not to be confused with Laura’s fondant.

IMG_2317

At this point all I could think of is Oreo cookie. Because you can’t see it but there’s buttercream frosting between these two layers. YUM!

Do you have any idea what it is yet?

IMG_2320

How about now? LOL!

Seriously, I’d eat it just like this.

IMG_2331

My partner in crime’s cake started to look a wee bit like a pirate ship. LOL!

IMG_2328

The fondant is placed neatly over the yummy mess.

IMG_2334

IMG_2335

One half at a time until completely covered and trimmed.

Any ideas yet?

IMG_2337

How about now?

IMG_2341

Now?

I actually posted this picture on FB yesterday and my MOM had no idea what it was and my DAD and another friend thought it was a hat! *sigh*

Maybe it was the angle.

IMG_2346

Is this better? It’s supposed to be a purse. See the handle hanging?

my cake

The zipper?

IMG_2365

*sigh* Well this is exactly the reason why I don’t do this for a living. You wouldn’t pay me to make a purse that looks like a hat now would you? Or would you? Hee! Hee!

I did have a bunch of fun and as a bonus I won the drawing for this adorable apron that Kathy made. No it wasn’t rigged! LOL! I won fair and square.

the apron

I didn’t get a lot of pictures of my daughter in action but here’s her and her finished cake. I think it came out beautiful. It’s so her!

Daughter and her cake

Isn’t it adorable?

IMG_2356

My partner in crime and her “Groovy” cake!  She was inspired by the Scooby Doo Mystery machine. LOL! So cute!

IMG_2344

If I posted all the pictures I took I’d be here all day but here’s a glimpse of the “Mature” table.

IMG_2359

That there’s a whole lot a sugar! Ha! Ha!

Everyone’s purses were so unique and pretty. Most importantly everyone had a great time!

Shall Wii Play?

The kids (the boys) got all excited when they saw that  Wii competition fun was on the Summer Fun list. They got excited because they know that Dad isn’t much of a gamer, so when he plays it just brings a whole new element of fun to it. My daughter graciously bowed out of the competition fun and chose to just watch it all go down.

We decided that Wii bowling would be the game of choice, so we put on our virtual bowling shoes and our groovy bowling shirts and hit the lanes.

I have to tell you that my husband’s Mii looks so much like him. It cracks me up every time he plays. Don’t believe me? Check it out.

IMG_2300 IMG_2307

The competition was tight until Middle Man tripped my Mii half way through the first game causing her to lose. What? I’m pretty sure that’s what happened.

All is well.

IMG_2298

After I was tripped.

IMG_2301

But there’s always a game two. Because when Mama loses there will always be a game two, or three or four, if need be. (I’m all about giving the kids and incentive to do their best.)LOL!  Thankfully, for my husband’s sake, it only took one more game. He doesn’t care if he loses (or we’d be here all night). Just kidding. He and I actually tied on the second game and he was definitely getting his groove on which made stopping at game two much easier. LOL!

IMG_2303

Filming us play and banter back and forth is something that we will have to do in the future. Because it’s funny. TRUST ME!

That’s your Summer Fun update from the homestead. If you missed the past few posts, feel free to go back and check them out. You might find something fun to do.

What have you been up to?

I SPY with My Little Eye…………..Mator!

Today for our Summer Fun we went to the movies to see Cars 2!! We don’t get to go to the movies very much, mainly because there isn’t much to see these days. But every year we look forward to the next Pixar movie because it’s one that we can go to as a family.

Where we live, if you go between 10 am. and 11 am. it’s only $4.00 a person. So we only had to fork out $20.00. Yay! Not to mention there’s no crowd. BONUS!

My boys! (Daughter dear didn’t want her picture taken today!) Teenagers!

IMG_6179

We all really liked the movie. It was action packed and nothing like the first one (which we also liked). There was a whole lot more of Mator in this one which is fine because Mator totally rocks!

There was a nice message about friendship that we can all relate to I’m sure.

IMG_6180

Have you seen it yet? What did you think?

Here’s the trailer incase you haven’t seen it yet!

Stay tuned for more Summer Fun on the homestead. If you’ve missed the past few posts of Summer Fun make sure you go check them out. You might get some fun ideas.

Fingers + Paint = FUN!

When I was putting our Summer Fun plan together the thought of finger painting came to mind. I hadn’t finger painted in many many many years. Like, since elementary school. But let me tell you something. It is soooo therapeutic. There’s something about getting your hands all in the paint and swooshing it around on the paper that makes you feel a little like a rebel. “I’m not using a paint brush. I’m not using a paint brush.” tap danced it’s way around my brain as I was probably having WAY to much fun for a 40 year old with paint all over her fingers.

But really, this wasn’t about me was it? Or was it? LOL!

As you can see the kids had fun too.

Little man acted like he’d been finger painting his whole life and sadly this was his first time. But oh so not my his last!

IMG_2276

Middle Man was little unsure at first and had issues with how to switch colors. This is when Little Man chimed in and said, “Just wipe it off on the newspaper!” Ah…This set Middle Man a little more at ease, I think.

Here he is realizing that he wants to switch colors. See the concern on his face? LOL!

IMG_2273

My daughter was a pro. She’s done it before. She asked no questions and got straight to work on her pieces of finger painting art. Might I note that I love having a teenager who loves to have fun with the family and be silly?

IMG_2280

Here you can see some of the finished pieces and my kids acting all innocent. Those two sweet angelic faces had just wiped paint all over each other. Uh, huh!

IMG_2275

Since there was no way anyone was going to use the camera while finger painting, sadly there are no pictures of me in action. BUT I have my finished masterpiece right here. Ha! HA!

IMG_2281

I call it “A Flower in Van Gogh’s Hair”!  LOL!

So there you have it. More Summer Fun from the homestead!

The Summer Fun Continues!

Are you ready for more Summer fun from the homestead?

On this day we decided to make Sun Prints. So simple to do but the kids had fun doing it and they were surprised at the outcome. (Let it be a secret, what happens!)

The fun part was going around the house picking and choosing what to put on your paper.

If you’ve never done this before, all you do is simply grab a sheet of construction paper (the darker the color the better we found out) lay small objects on it and place it in direct sun for about an hour.

Here we have mine on the purple paper. I chose a “kitchen theme” if you couldn’t already tell. My little man’s is on the dark blue. He chose a  “toy theme”. And my hubby’s is the light blue and he whipped out his tools.

IMG_2259

Then over here we have my daughters on the pink paper. She went with the kitchen theme as well. My middle man used the dark blue paper and made a man out of his blocks.

IMG_2258

Here they are on our Summer Fun wall. (More on that later)

Can you see the imprints? It was a pretty cool activity.

Let the Summer Fun Begin!!

Happy First Day of SUMMER!!!
Okay, we actually had already started the Summer fun, but with the temperatures in the high 90’s who could blame us?
The hard work I put into planning our Summer is paying off nicely. You can read about our Intentional Summer Fun here if you haven’t already.
We started out our Summer fun by making tie dye t-shirts. The whole family had fun doing this project! Everyone did a slightly different variation and colors so they all came out VERY cool.
Anxiously waiting!

Mama showing him how it’s done.

And then there was no stopping him!

Middle man doing his shirt!

Our daughter getting in on the action!

Mom and Dad getting their tie dye groove on! I like to groove!

Or in this case just Dad. I guess no one got a picture of me making mine. *sniff*

Here they are all washed and hanging out to dry.

The hippies have arrived. LOL!

And then we proudly displayed them on our bodies for my son’s 9th birthday party.

Stay tuned for more Summer Fun happenings from the homestead!
Got anything fun planned?

30 Day Photo Fun! Day 16-Mason Jar Day 17-Bokeh

I hope some of you are enjoying my little Photo Fun Challenge. It’s been great fun! I’ll be back to regular blogging very soon!

Did I mention I’m doing all of these photos with a Canon Power Shot A3100? The reason I mention this is because it’s hard sometimes to capture certain things with a point and shoot camera. If I were more seasoned on Photoshop that might help but all you’ve seen so far is just me snapping a pic and posting it. I’m simple that way. Hee! Hee!

So without further ado Day 16.

I love mason jars. They are so useful. I had a hard time decided just what kind of picture I wanted to take but finally settled for these.

IMG_2239

I bet you can almost taste that sweet iced tea!

Then I wanted a little color so I shot this one.

IMG_2234

I love crayons!

Next is Day 17-Bokeh

I’m not the greatest at taking Bokeh shots. Especially with a point and shoot camera but here’s what I got.

IMG_2247

The more I look at this picture the more I love it. I can’t really explain why.

30 Day Photo Fun! Day 14-Someone you love Day 15-Action

Day 14 of the photo challenge was another no brainer. I picked my hubbalicious for my subject!

He rocks my world. He melts my butter. He’s the chocolate to my peanut butter. I love him with all of my heart! So here he is.

Someone I Love!

IMG_2230

Day 15 is ACTION!

Most of you will laugh because you know of my love of line drying so I of course had to use this opportunity of clothes flapping in the wind as my next subject!

It also didn’t hurt that I was doing my sons’ laundry this day, so there were no granny panties waving the white flag of surrender. That’s not so pretty. Ha! Ha! Oh you know you’d love to be my neighbor. Hee! Hee!

ACTION!

30 Day Photo Fun! Day 13 Reminds You of Childhood

When I saw today’s challenge I knew exactly what I was going to take a picture of.

This!

IMG_2174

Yes folks, this is MY original Lite-Brite, in it’s original box and I’m pretty sure it even has the original light bulb in it. I was 8 when my parents bought me this for Christmas. I played with this ALL the time.

IMG_2175

Believe it or not there were even some unused papers in there so I could write this Happy Birthday sign to my son who is turning 9 today. So it worked out perfect!

I took this picture in the closet so you could see it better!

IMG_2171

I loved my Lite-Brite!

And for your viewing pleasure. The original commercial. Boy did THIS bring back the memories. Enjoy!

What thing brings a childhood memory to your mind?
